Candidates for 13 Deputy Minister positions are confirmed
Summary: Competition for the deputy minister positions was more intense than for ministers, with 120 applications submitted. Last Monday, Head of MPP Caucus in the Parliament D. Khayankhyarvaa, acting General Secretary of MPP D. Amarbayasgalan, and the Director of MPP Policy and Structure D. Davaasuren interviewed 54 potential candidates for 13 available positions for deputy minister. Yesterday, the Steering Committee of MPP has approved the final line up of candidates. Today, the Cabinet members will make the final decision after voting. The Deputy Minister positions are the final political appointees by the MPP.

MP Ya. Sodbaatar – ‘We should put aside our interests’
Summary: MP Ya. Sodbaatar shared his opinion on the formation of the new cabinet and future plans of the Parliament. The newly elected MP believes that the first step of the Cabinet should be the realistic diagnosis of the current social and economic situation. He revealed that the MPP should learn from the mistakes of previous cabinet and reinforce a strict discipline and responsibility of governance. MPP is planning to advance big scale projects that have a direct impact on the market, such as Oyu Tolgoi, Tavan Tolgoi and Shivee Energy. Additionally, we will pay extra attention to the agriculture and husbandry industries as the price of raw materials of animal origin dropped drastically. MP Ya. Sodbaatar concluded his interview by stating he believes being completely honest with foreign investors is the way to gain investors’ trust back.

Net Profit of Thermal Power Station-III increases by 9 times
Summary: According to the results of the first half of 2016, Thermal Power Station-III’s net income increased by 9 times and reached 4.3 billion MNT, and Thermal Power Station- IV’s net income increased by 13 times, earning 92.91 billion MNT. Meanwhile, Thermal Power Station- II suffered a loss of 94.9 million MNT. Thermal Power Stations III and IV went under major renovation and built extensions in 2014, which saved 83% of its expenses in 2016 and greatly contributed to the positive outcome. Renovations and major extensions for the Thermal Power Stations I and II will finalize at the end of September this year. Additionally, Baganuur and Buuruljuut power stations are in the implementation process.

DP warns MPP not to make decisions in an aggressive manner
Summary: Head of DP Caucus in the Parliament S. Erdene sent an official notice to the MPP Caucus regarding their decision-making process in appointing the Civil Service Council members. According to the law, the official term for Civil Service Council members is 6 years. However, MPP members started discussing the appointment of new Civil Service Council members during the plenary session while the Civil Service Council members were on summer break. Therefore, the DP Caucus reminds the MPP to follow the main principles of government operation and warns them not to make decisions in an aggressive manner.
