AU: Salmonella traced to one farm in the Northern Territory
|
|
|
PMA A-NZ: The Australian melon industry welcomes the news that the source of the current Salmonella outbreak has been traced to one farm in the Northern Territory. The farm has commenced a voluntary recall of the fruit. Consumers can be assured that rockmelons now on the retail shelves are not affected by the recall and are safe to purchase and consume.

Food Standards Australia & New Zealand: Why has a warning about consuming rockmelons been issued? Salmonella has been detected on the surface of some rockmelons that were sampled from a retail outlet in South Australia by South Australia Health.

US: UV light oven has potential to decontaminate produce at home
|

|
Food Safety News: Haiqiang Chen, Ph.D., of the University of Delaware is busy developing a device using ultraviolet (UV) light to kill foodborne pathogens on fresh produce in consumers’ homes and elsewhere. His UV light oven, which is about the size of a microwave oven, will combine UV light with stirred-up water to reduce Salmonella and other bacteria and viruses that can contaminate fresh produce.

The Herald Sun: Victoria is battling a major outbreak of Salmonella and bacteria-related illnesses which has experts desperately searching for a cause. In the past two months 72 cases of foodborne infections have been reported to the Department of Health — including 46 identified in one June week alone.
