Wednesday 3 August

Welcome

Great Start to Term
Congratulations to all students on an excellent start to Term 3. I hear wonderful reports from across the school of their work ethic, personal character and achievements. Their participation and team spirit at the recent Athletics Carnivals were inspirational. Special congratulations must go to the Secondary Daniel House Team, who celebrated their first win in almost two decades. They ran a brilliant campaign on the day which translated as an all-out, whole team effort through participation to bring home the athletics trophy. The team leaders showed great leadership and Daniel has shown what can be achieved when a team unites behind a common cause and every member does their part. Well done.  Read More

Remember to pray for our Year 12 students this term
Term 3 sees a number of significant challenges for our Year 12 students, including the culmination of their school-based assessment tasks and the two day Queensland Core Skills Test on Tuesday 30 August and Wednesday 31 August. The stress of this workload, together with growing freedom (due in large part to the acquisition of their drivers’ licenses) and the emergent reality that 12 years of formal schooling is soon to be over, make for a heady and complex phase of life. Please uphold them in your prayers – as well as their mums, dads and teachers.

Parking on Schubert Road during Sports Field Extension
It’s pretty exciting to watch the progress of the earthworks on the far side of the oval which has commenced this term. We should start to see some rapid progress as the site that is to receive the fill is finally ready. We ask that parents please refrain from parking at anytime on Schubert Road (the service road behind the tennis courts) for safety reasons. Large trucks and earthmoving machinery will use this service road frequently over the coming months. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these sports field earthworks. We can’t wait to use the newly expanded facility in 2017.

Edogawa
Our visiting students from Edogawa Gakuen Toride Junior & Senior High School have really enjoyed their first week at Suncoast, enjoying a range of activities including attending class with their Suncoast buddies to experience what school is like in Australia, specialised English lessons and a visit to Australia Zoo. We can all be very proud of the way the Suncoast community has embraced and welcomed Edogawa students and staff.

Arts on Twilight Suncoast Cultural Festival – Friday 26 August
Click here to sign up to be a volunteer at Arts on Twilight and use this event code: kc9p7.  This fantastic event is just 4 weeks away and promises to be a night to remember for the whole community. Teams are hard at work making arrangements for the art displays, performances, photography, entertainment, food, rides, activities and stalls that make the night so enjoyable.
An event of this size needs a large army of volunteers to make it happen – we are asking as many people as possible to pitch in and volunteer some time on the night.  Read More

Change to Year 9 in 2017 Info Night

The continued implementation of the Australian Curriculum at Suncoast has meant that the changes for students going into Year 9 and 10 are less than they have been historically.

We therefore feel we do not need to hold the Information Night for Year 9 in 2017 that had been scheduled for Wednesday 17 August.  Students will be able to select 2 electives to study in Years 9 and 10 from a list of subjects, most of which they have trialled in Years 7 and 8.

Information on subjects and the subject selection process will be mailed to Year 8 families before the end of term.

It is that time of year where our senior students are venturing off to Open Days at Universities and Tafe Institutions around the Region.   Two weeks ago Years 11 and 12 students visited the Careers Expo at the University of the Sunshine Coast.   It was a great opportunity to explore the variety of training options that are available to them as they move into the next stage of their lives.
