Message from the Principal

Today there has been much talk in the media about the 2016 NAPLAN results.

At this stage these results are not available to school.  There appears to be some delay.

For those parents who receive the “Perth Voice” local newspaper you might recognise one of our very talented teachers, Mr Chris Owen on page 2.  Chris was featured with his newly published book, Pandamonia.  Congratulations Chris, I am looking forward to sharing this book with the staff and students. The book launch is at the State Library on Saturday 20 August at 3.00pm.

Brightpath
Another example of Coolbinia being ahead of most other schools! This year the Department of Education and the School’s Curriculum and Reporting Authority (SCARSA) have been promoting the use of a writing moderation and marking tool called Brightpath. Coolbinia has been using Brightpath for three years to assist us in evaluating the teaching and learning of the students' writing.  It is always great to be able to share some of the outstanding work of our teachers.

Canteen Helpers Needed

Can you help?

Stephanie in our canteen provides a wonderful service to our school.  I am sure we would all be lost without our wonderful canteen service. One of the key factors in running our canteen and keeping costs lower is having volunteers to assist.
Can you please consider helping out, even if only for a busy recess or lunchtime?
Please call Stephanie on 9444 3798 and let her know you are available, or find out further information.

In an effort to get a bit extra support each week we will be nominating classes to consider volunteering.  This week we are calling all Rooms 3 and 4  parents to consider volunteering.

Butterfly Bounty

We're making a difference.

Planting of butterfly host plant species continued last week, in both the school grounds and the bushland.  For example, the Running Postman (Kennedia prostrata) is a host plant for the Common Grass Blue butterfly and Green Stinkwood (Jacksonia sternbergiana) is a host plant for the Western Jewel.  Our students learnt specific skills for planting seedlings that encourage plant survival in the bushland.
Working together, we are making a difference!

Book Club

The latest Book Club catalogues are out now and have been distributed to students, if you'd like to make an order please try the online ordering system - details on the catalogue.
We are on the hunt for a volunteer - someone with 4-5 hours a month - to help out with the Bookclub in  2017.  Plenty of handover time this year.  If you would like to help - please email Teny

Lost Property Increase

Can you take a look at home?

We have had a lot of students lose jackets, in particular, in the last few weeks of term, but also hats and other items.  Can you please take a look inside uniform labels this week and see if your child might have accidentally brought home another child's clothing. Particularly in this cold weather we'd like to reunite children with their jackets.
