MiMS Crew!
It is hard to believe that we are over halfway through summer – which means we are also halfway through Cycle 2 of the 2016 MiMS season. Things are moving quickly – and so are our runners! Check out the latest:

  • Over 40 Members of Team Higher Ground toughed out the scorching heat to complete the Torchlight 5K on July 20th, including five first-time Resident Members, eleven Alumni & Resident Mentors, and more than 20 Run Mentors (aka volunteers).
  • 27 FundRacers also completed the Torchlight 5K – racers who used the 5k as an opportunity to fundraise for Mile in My Shoes.  Altogether they raised over $13,000 for Mile in My Shoes. Thank you FundRacers!
  • Team YouthLink welcomed its first eight runners onto the team! So far there have been water relay races, popsicles, juggling and even running during their 6pm meet-ups. Welcome aboard Youth Link!
  • Run Mentor Michael Gibino ran from St. Paul to Philadelphia – over 12 thousand miles – en route to the Democratic National Convention. Along the way he raised awareness about homelessness issues - AND nearly $4000 for Mile in My Shoes! That deserves a lot of hugs ... and maybe even a rest day. Follow his journey here

Cycle 2 Advocacy & Social Event: Out in the Cold - TONIGHT, August 3rd
Join our Run Mentors AND Resident Members this evening for a screening of the documentary Out in the Cold. The film follows two men as they leave the comforts of home to sleep on the streets or in homeless shelters during one cold Minnesota week. Short panel discussion to follow. Check out the Facebook event for details & to RSVP.

Marathon Training! Five members of Team Higher Ground have begun training for that ultimate bucket-list race – the Twin Cities Marathon! They’re preparing for the 26.2 mile race in October by putting in long miles on Saturday mornings alongside Run Mentors. Interested in training with them, or their teammates training for the 10-mile race? Email volunteer@mileinmyshoes.mn.

Race for MiMS!
Feeling FOMO after watching the Torchlight FundRacers rack up donations - and feel-goods - this past month? Did you “win” the 10-Mile lottery, or "accidentally" register for a marathon, and now need some motivation to train? Or simply need a good excuse to run dressed like a hotdog or a dolphin? Whatever the distance, whatever your goal, there’s a way to increase its significance: fundraise for Mile in My Shoes!  We'll help you set up a page, spread your message, and we'll even give you prizes (MiMS hoodies!) as you hit your donation goals. Visit our FundRacing page to find out more & sign up!

T-Shirt Slogan Contest!
MiMS is going to be creating some official super-soft tees, and we're looking for a slogan to print on them along with our name and/or logo. Send in a funny, inspiring, or just plain catchy slogan that you think represents the spirit of MiMS and it could end up across the chests of every one of us! The winner will get a free t-shirt AND the opportunity to model it on our website. Submit your entries here by Friday, August 12th. Multiple entries encouraged!

Support MiMS without running a step
We're always looking for volunteers to help out with behind-the-scenes projects. Email Mishka with ideas or to find out how we could use your help.
