Art Update | Summer 2016

Upcoming Site-specific Exhibition

This coming weekend, I will be one of a few selected artists to create a site-specific response to the Governor Ames Estate in North Easton, MA. The Trustees of Reservations preserve, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. I will be creating new skiagrams, lumen prints and a sound composition in response to the Governor Ames house and the grounds of the estate in accordance with the theme, "Bringing the Outdoors In." The entire first floor of the house will be transformed, and the installations will be open to the public August 19-28, 2016.

I will add images and installation views to my website at the conclusion of the exhibition to share the experience.

Winter & Spring Re-Cap

Back in January, I had the wonderful chance to visit Longwood University in Farmville, VA as a visiting artist. A colleague in the photo-community, Mike Mergen, asked me to come and give an artist talk, lead a workshop on the chromoskedasic sabatier process and sit in on critiques with his students. It was an amazing few days, and I loved being able to engage with that community.

I continued to teach full-time at the Community College of Rhode Island this spring semester. I was also very lucky to have a solo show on my campus in Lincoln, showing all the facets of my Concealed at first at last I appear project, including new mural-sized chemical paintings.

I also had a travel-filled month of March, attending two major photo events. The first was the Society of Photographic Education's annual National Conference, in Las Vegas! As always, the conference was enlightening, stimulating and a wonderful chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues. The other trip was to the FotoFest 2016 Biennial in Houston, TX to participate in the Meeting Place portfolio reviews. This was an intense but unbelievably rewarding five days, and I hope to have follow-up announcements to make in the coming months.

In the late spring months, through the generous offer from an amazing arts advocate and friend, Catalina Piedrahita, I curated my first show for the Middle Gray's exhibition space in Brookline, MA. The small group show was titled space between | seen, and featured the work of myself, Elizabeth Ellenwood, Alyssa Minahan and Danielle Dean Palmer.
Finally, I just returned this past Sunday from Manchester, NH. I was there to teach and engage with the New Hampshire Institute of Art's low-residency MFA program. I was honored to teach a seminar for the MFA Photo students and participate in critiques with all of the students. I'm so grateful to Jason Landry for bringing me into the program, as I really love the whole community of students and educators that are a part of this program.
