ISSUE 31 :: A Full Couple of Weeks :: WHAT'S UP :: WORTH A READ :: ROUND-UP

View this email in your browser

It's been a full couple of weeks with an impromptu make at a friend's request, a class on Sewing with Leather, and the beginning of a new applique(!) project. Plus I have overlapping wips on my design wall, not to mention that QAL I told you about in the last issue. And about that....

WHAT'S UP

Oh my goodness! It's been all about the Crosscut Quilt-Along on Instagram! Nearly 100 participants strong, it was a great week of sewing in community. Especially gratifying was knowing it was a very first quilt-along for some, the first dabbling in improv for others, and it was fun to see the alternate uses some folks found for their projects. See #crosscutquiltalong for all the process photos, and Crosscut Showing One to see some of the first finishes up close, with more to come.

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

It was Amanda Jean/crazy mom quilt's pincushion challenge that got me focused on pincushions for this issue. She challenged herself to make a pincushion every day in July, and accomplished that and then some! At the end, she published a pattern for Plenty of Pincushions (five of her designs), with apparently more to come. That led me to gather up even more pincushion ideas, as you'll find below, all with tutorials.
Faith/Fresh Lemons' darling Spool Pincushion would be a perfect choice for beginning paper-piecers!

And how 'bout pulling straight from your scrap basket to make Vanessa/V and Co.'s sweet Stringblock Pincushion

Another unique shape is the Cube Pinnie by Lee/May Chappell, which even has pockets! [maychappell]
Nicole/Modern Handcraft makes use of her Sizzix die-cutter to cut the 1/2" felt hexies for her Hexie Pincushion, then of course finishes them off with her signature quilting.

P.S. I was more than a little flabbergasted to find my aquilterstable on Lindsay Connor's list of 50 Instagram Accounts Every Quilter Should Follow, but there. I. am. wow. Do check out the list to see who you might be missing!
