Jew vs Jew: Pillar avoids Bregman's tag

 Games played August 3-4, 2016

Back in the lineup after a day off, Houston 3B Alex Bregman singled and walked in a 4-1 loss to Toronto. He also helped turn a double play. On the other side of the diamond, Toronto CF Kevin Pillar went 0-for-3 but reached base on a fielder's choice and -- in a Jew vs Jew moment -- later stole third base by sliding around Bregman's tag. Pillar initially was called out but was ruled safe on review.

Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler hit his 21st home run and notched his 60th RBI in a 6-3 loss to Chicago. It's the most home runs the 34-year-old has hit since 2011, when he smashed a career-high 32. Kinsler's leadoff shot in the 1st inning was his fifth of the season and 37th of his career, tied for 7th all-time in Major League history. Kinsler ranks 2nd on the Tigers in HRs and third in RBIs. Iin a pre-game ceremony Thursday, he was presented with the Heart and Hustle award, an honor given annually to one player on each MLB team. Under third-year manager Brad Ausmus, Detroit is 59-49 and in second place in the A.L. Central behind Cleveland.

Batting cleanup, Oakland's Danny Valencia went 2-for-5 with his 14th home run in an 8-6, 10-inning win over the Angels. After singling in the 10th inning, Valencia scored what proved to be the winning run. No longer the A's regular third baseman, Valencia started in right field for only the fourth time in his 7-year career.
