Small Group opportunities for Summer

You are invited to join the Fellowship Class (Fellowship Hall, 9:45 a.m., Sunday mornings) focusing on the theme: Toward a New Creation - Genesis, Psalms, Zephaniah, and Romans.

Sunday September 11 th the Fenstermaker Class will begin a discussion of Rob Bell’s book Velvet Elvis. Bell has been called a “heretic” by some and a “visionary” by others within the Christian Community. He is controversial and clearly has a gift for making provocative statements that will challenge us to think about our faith and decide if we agree with him or think he’s lost touch with reality. Whether we agree with him or not, the thought process will help each of us emerge with a stronger, clearer understanding of what we believe and why we believe it. Hope you can join us in the Conference room. We will have books available.

Other Announcements

The Chancel Choir is back in full swing, rehearsing on Wednesdays at 7pm.. If you have ever had any interest in music or singing, now is the perfect time to come and see what we're all about as we gear up for the fall season. Reading music is not required; however, a sense of humour is strongly encouraged. For further information, please see Nathan Smock after the service, or contact him at nsmock@avonumc.net.

Avondale Samaritan Place Fundraiser - Mark your calendars for September 11 at Cahaba Brewery for this year’s fundraising event to support Avondale Samaritan Place. Tickets will go on sale later in August ... in the meantime, we need items for the silent auction. If you have Auburn or Alabama football tickets that you can’t use, nice pieces of art, restaurant or retail gift certificates, gift certificates for services (spa, hair, nails. housecleaning, etc), any homemade items (baby blankets, quilts) or other items for a silent auction (worth approximately $100), please contact one of our ASP Board members (Alison Jenkins, Jill Wheeler, Ginger Branson or Malinda Weaver). Last year was a good start but we hope to make this year even bigger and better!

We will be packing Brown Bags following the church service today.

Children's Choir begins rehearsing next Sunday, August 14 at 9:45am.  Children ages 5 and up are welcome.

Pastor Malinda will be teaching a new class on Sunday mornings at 9:45am beginning Sunday, August 14.
This is a good class for young adults (20-30 somethings) to connect with each other.  It’s also a great opportunity for parents whose children are rehearsing during that time with children’s choir.  The first 6-week study will come from Adam Hamilton’s book The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus.  Using historical information, archaeological data, and stories of the faith, we’ll follow in the footsteps of Jesus from his baptism to the temptations to the heart of his ministry, including the people he loved, the parables he taught, the enemies he made, and the healing he brought.  Contact Pastor Malinda for more information (mweaver@avonumc.net).
