Hi <<First Name>>

I hope your summer is going well! It has been a very busy summer for us, with a lot of travelling.  But the travelling is done and I am back in the studio!

A major highlight for this year came in July when I attended the Calgary Stampede.  Five of my paintings had been accepted into the Western Showcase Art Gallery. I had been painting towards this goal for two years.  Once all the dust had settled four of the paintings had been sold to new homes!

Upcoming Show:

Please join me at the

Kelowna Painters Studio "Art in the Garden" Show and Sale

Saturday - August 13, 2016 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
at
Pleasant Pear Orchard B&B
2379 Rojem Road, Kelowna, BC (click for a map)

Note that there is a lot of construction in Glenmore this year.  You have to approach Rojem from the south as Longhill Road is closed at Valley Road. Coming north up Dilworth is your best bet!

  • Peachland Art Gallery - July 1 to September 1 - 5684 Beach Ave, Peachland, BC

Now for Something Completely Different

I have been experimenting with fluid acrylics this year and I have been having so much fun! The work produced couldn’t be more “completely different” than the work that came before it and yet, somehow, it is still completely “me”.

Last October, I attended a workshop with Suzanne Northcott.  I wanted to explore different ways of applying paint...

New Forest Paintings

Along with my "completely different" work, I have been painting more forests.  I love forests of all kinds and in all places.  It is a place where I feel serene.

New Ink Resist Paintings

Ink Resist is a process of using Gouache (a thick opaque watercolour) to mask areas of a painting prior to applying India Ink to the entire surface.  The process is explained in detail on this blog post.

There is something about this process that I really like, working with negative painting and not truly knowing what you are going to get until after the washing step.

Once you have washed off the gouache and ink, you can complete the painting with a variety of media.  I have been experimenting with combining this technique with metal leaf applications.

75th FCA Signature Celebration and Exhibition

I am very pleased to be part of the largest exhibition of living artists in Canadian History.  The FCA 75th Anniversary Signature Celebration and Exhibition marks seventy-five years of artistic excellence at the Federation of Canadian Artists. All Signature Members are invited to showcase one work that best demonstrates their artistic strengths and achievements.

The show will be held at The Performance Works, 1218 Cartwright Street, Vancouver, BC between September 28th and October 2nd. If you are near the coast, be sure to take in this show!

Now I just have to decide which painting "best demonstrates" my artistic strengths.  That is harder than you might think!
