Educate Yourself on MIPS - According to a recent study, about half of providers are unaware of the forthcoming changes set to take place in the next few months.  Don't be one of them!  Start educating yourself by watching our previously held Introduction to MIPS webinar, register for our current MIPS: Steps to Take in 2016 webinar and plan to attend one of our future webinars on each performance category (Quality, Advancing Care Information, Clinical Practice Improvement Activities and Resource Use) running from the end of September through December.

When you have done all that and decide you need help navigating this new CMS Quality Payment System, sign up for our MIPS Assistance Program to ensure you are taking the right steps in achieving a positive payment adjustment.
ICD-10 Flexibilities Expire October 1st  - To ease the transition to ICD-10, Medicare allowed certain flexibility when coding based on specificity.  Those flexibility exceptions will end as of October 1, 2016.  "ICD-10 flexibilities were for the purpose of contractors performing medical review so that they would not deny claims solely for the specificity of the ICD-10 code as long as there is no evidence of fraud. As of October 1, 2016, providers will be required to code to accurately reflect the clinical documentation in as much specificity as possible, as per the required coding guidelines."  Read more about what codes will be valid and how this affects audits in this CMS/AMA joint announcement.  Also remember to upgrade to the latest 6.1.7 version of ChartMaker® Medical Suite to receive the updated ICD-10 codes.
ChartMaker® Mobile Beta Release - We are very excited to announce that the first medical practice using ChartMaker Mobile has gone live and has given positive feedback about functionality and performance.  We’ll be adding a few more early adopters of this new technology throughout the month of September, prior to releasing it to all clients.  The first generation of the app will allow you to view patient information as well as appointment schedules. Interested in becoming a Mobile App beta client?  Sign up today!  The number of clients selected will be limited.
KIDS Plus IIS System Update - Beginning in September 2016, KIDS Plus IIS will have an important system update that will affect how users report immunizations to KIDS Plus IIS. This upgrade will allow VFC and VFAAR providers to automatically decrement inventory. This means you will no longer have to manually reconcile your VFC and VFAAR vaccine inventory, which should save you hours of work every month and reduce errors. Learn what needs to be changed in Clinical here.
Patient Access Improves Patient Care - Research shows that more than half of individuals that were offered access to their medical records online accessed it within the past year and the "age factor" is becoming a thing of the past. Having accurate health information is vital for proper care and treatment. Allowing patients to view this information online is one way to ensure your data is correct. Not sure where to start with implementing a Patient Portal? Let these 5 simple steps get you started.
Client Profile: Meetinghouse Family Physicians - Meetinghouse has been using ChartMaker® Clinical EMR for over 6 years and Practice Manager for over 20!  They continue to utilize new features offered in the software and come up with ways to successfully incorporate the change into their office routine. Read about some of Meetinghouse's latest accomplishments that you may be able to implement in your own practice.  Have a story about how your practice has overcome healthcare industry obstacles or has excelled at practice management? Contact us so we can share your success too!
Test e-Prescriptions No Longer Permitted - Surescripts recently sent a bulletin to vendors reminding them of the risks from sending “test” e-prescriptions.  They stated, "It is important to note that significant potential risks may arise if pharmacies dispense such 'test' prescription orders.  Pharmacies may not be able to discern the prescriber’s intent for a 'test' order that was sent for the sole purpose of determining the insurance coverage versus an intended fillable prescription.  The result can be an adverse event that directly affects patient safety." Please refrain from sending any e-prescriptions for fake patients or which are not intended to be filled
