Dear <<First Name>>,

As most of you know, this month the Summer Olympic Games have returned and they are hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Every four years countries send their best athletes in their respective sports to compete against other athletes from all over the world. The Olympics are viewed by hundreds of millions of people worldwide supporting their countries. There are stories of star studded athletes, and also underdog stories. All the stories of dedication and perseverance keep the Olympics exciting.

Yesterday I read a great story about USA track athlete Abbey D’Agostino. In the 5000-meter race she tripped on New Zealand’s Nikki Hamblin, injuring herself. The two helped each other get up and complete the race. This showed humanity under grueling competition. Abbey said, “By far the best part of my experience of the Olympics has been the community it creates, what the Games symbolizes. Since the night of the opening ceremonies, I have been so touched by this — people from all corners of globe, embracing their unique cultures, yet all uniting under one celebration of the human body, mind, and spirit.”

This is just one more example of what we hear over and over again from these athletes; being part of the Olympic Games and doing their best is the reward, aside from getting medals.

The message applies to our more mundane lives. At the end of the day we can ask ourselves: did we do the best we could today? Did we stretch and reach for the stars? This is for each one of us to answer.

Best regards,

Carlos Banchik,
President
