09.22.16  Federal Competitive Grants

Miles Dickson, The JA Barrett Corporation, will be our guest speaker.  For decades Nevada has been among the lowest performing states in the U.S. in terms of receiving competitive federal grants. However, with leadership from Governor Sandoval’s administration and the Legislature the State has recently taken significant steps toward correcting this unnecessary and harmful imbalance. In the years to come, State leaders and government should alongside local governments, nonprofits, and community leaders to address challenges such as grant capacity and match funding. Working together we can secure more competitive federal grant resources to benefit all Nevadans. Join us to learn more.  RSVP for this informative session.

10.19.16  Making Sense of Collective Impact

In a world of limited resources and abundant need, community organizations hope to have the greatest possible returns on their investment of time, talent and treasure. Ensuring large, sustainable impact requires an understanding of the "Big Picture.” Through interactive games and modeling exercises, this session aims to help make clear the paradigm shift necessary to achieve systems- level change.

This session will introduce the basics of systems thinking in order to help practitioners with identifying root causes of complex problems, high-leverage interventions, and unintended consequences of programs and policy.

At the end of the session, participants will have:
    - a working concept of systems dynamics (feedback loops, mental models, archetypes, etc.),
    - knowledge of how to identify systems of behavior and its root cause,
    - exercises and activities to encourage this sort of thinking with their teams

 RSVP for this informative session.
