Twitter Chat: Understanding Poverty
On September 13, join us for a Twitter chat to discuss the Census Bureau's annual report on income and poverty in the United States. David Grusky, Timothy Smeeding, Ann Huff Stevens, and other leading experts will analyze the 2015 statistics and discuss the causes of poverty. Research and Evaluation Conference on Self-Sufficiency
The 2016 Research and Evaluation Conference on Self-Sufficiency (RECS) brought together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss well-being and self-sufficiency among low-income families. Videos of all plenary sessions and select breakout sessions are available online.

The gap in academic performance between low-income and high-income children is already large by the time that students enter kindergarten, but new research by CPI research group leader Sean Reardon and his coauthors shows that the gap has narrowed since the late 1990s.

From 1990 to 2010, income segregation increased for families with children, but among childless households—two-thirds of the population—income segregation changed little, according to a new paper by CPI affiliate Ann Owens.
