To equip first-year students with necessary knowledge and skills to allow them to successfully adapt and make the transition from high school to tertiary institutions was the aim of the DUT First-Year Student Experience (FYSE) Programme Planning Workshop which took place at the DUT Ritson Campus last week.
DUT’s Interim Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr John Volmink, has expressed his full support for the Silent Protest March which is set to take place on Wednesday, 24 August 2016.
Dr Volmink was speaking during a meeting with the DUT HIV/AIDS Centre which is organising the March in partnership with the Health Care Foundation.
Professor Aashish Kumar, the charismatic international academic and documentary filmmaker, who is also a second-time Fulbright awardee, has temporarily made DUT his home-base for six weeks.
Prof Kumar is an Associate Professor in the L. Herbert School of Communication, Hofstra University, New York, who has been in higher education for more than 20 years.
Visiting Professor Phil E. Okeke-Ihejirika, Professor and Acting Chair at the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, University of Alberta, Canada, was recently hosted by DUT’s Directorate for Research and Postgraduate Support as part of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme.

The DUT Gender Forum hosted a Women’s Day event to celebrate women on Friday last week, 12 August 2016, at the DUT Art Gallery, Steve Biko Campus.
Themed: Bold and Dynamic Women, the event also aimed at celebrating women and recognising their strength.
Attendees were treated to gifts sponsored by Van Schaik Book Store and Old Mutual.
