Late Summer update

We've created a page on the website (here) where you can now see all the previous updates / newsletters / mailings. It's easy to lose them, and even though mostly this will be out of date information, nevertheless it might be of use.

This update covers September to November. Don't expect it to be definitive - things are bound to get added, and to some degree a few things might also change. It's always worth checking the Facebook page for more immediate updates.

Rachel Allain: Light Water Exposure (double pinhole panoramic colour photograph)

Susan Deakin and Kari Furre

In the new Garden Room Gallery at Dartington Space Susan Deakin and Kari Furre are both showing work. Although their work is very different (Kari works with domestic-scale sculptures - what she aptly calls 'intimate sculpture' and with fish skins she tans herself using a completely chemical-free process; Sue works with print-making and drawing techniques), but for this exhibition they have chosen works to exhibit some commonality - go see the work and find out for yourself.

The show is open now (mostly during office hours, and sometimes in the evenings and weekend - particularly during August) and runs until October 15.  If you're making a special journey, please ring 01803 847103 to check opening times.

First Friday in September

On September 2, it's a First Friday and we'll be in the Garden Room area at Dartington Space (down the hill from the main car parks - big blue sign at end of drive) which will give you a good opportunity to browse the exhibition by Susan Deakin and Kari Furre (above). Bring something to share for lunch: we start around 1pm.

Then at 2 or thereabout we'll wander down the hall to the studios of Soundart Radio 102.5fm where Rachel Allain and Katrina Brown will be talking about and showing their work. We usually wrap up around 3.30.

Find out more about Katrina's work, and about Rachel's work

Geumgang Art Nature in Korea

Currently, until the end of the month, our partners CCANW are based in Korea at the Geumgang Art Nature Biennale, produced by Yatoo. Richard Povall is involved with the project, working with some of the many international artists who are there (busy now, installing work for the exhibition in very hot and humid conditions). You can follow Richard's writing and reflections here.

The UK artists at the Biennale are Oliver Raymond-Barker and Carmen Lombardi. Although not part of this year's Biennale, Fern Leigh Albert will be supported by us to undertake a residency at Yatoo in September.

In June, Richard was awarded a grant from Arts Council England to support this international development work.

CCANW have worked with Yatoo for quite a number of years, but alongside art.earth are now exploring a couple of major project with them, including a major exhibition of Korean Art/Nature work for London and elsewhere, and a UK version of the 'Global Nomadic Art Project'. Both of these will happen in 2018.

Coming up later

On Friday 7th October will be another First Friday, and again it will happen in Dartington Space. We're hoping that artists Susan Deakin and Kari Furre will be on hand to talk about the work they have on show in the Garden Room Gallery (it's up from August 3rd to October 15th), called 'Intimate sculpture, fish skin bowls, prints and drawings'.

Once again, bring some food or drink to share, for about 1pm.

A busy November

We'll have a busy November, starting with a First Friday on November 4. Watch future mailings and our Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates on that.

On November 9 we will host an international think-tank group to discuss issues around the aesthetics of renewable energy and our attitudes in general to consumption. This will be a wide-ranging group, not just artists, and the day will be co-facilitated by Richard Povall and by Robery Ferry and Elizabeth Monoian (The Land Art Generator Initiative) and Chris Fremantle (eco/arts/scot/land).  This event is small, and by-invitation but if you have a particularly keen interest in this area please contact Richard and ask about becoming involved.

Feeding the Insatiable: a summit

Then at 4pm on that day we kick off our international summit Feeding the Insatiable: real and imagined narratives of art, energy and consumption for a troubled planet.

The event features thinkers and makers from across the world, with an opening keynote event from Land Art Generator Initiative (Robert Ferry and Elizabeth Monoian) with ecoartist / producer Chris Fremantle from eco/art/scot/land. Other sessions focus on Ecologies, Shaping the World, Artist projects, Communicating, Energy Generation and Poetics.

See more detail as it emerges in the programme.

There are still standard places available, as well as a few concession places and some Stewarding bursaries. All details are on the website, If you're interested in the bursary opportunity contact Richard.
