Why We Celebrate

from the desk of CEO Bruce Carlson

Technology companies and the jobs they create are THE future for Connecticut. While every other sector besides health care is shedding jobs in Connecticut, our sector is growing. Yet we don’t often stand back and take stock of what the technology sector means to Connecticut. Over the next four months, the CTC will bring the technology community together for a number of major events to celebrate what the technology sector provides to Connecticut, be it significant job growth or disruptive technology that is destined to change our lives in the coming years.

Why We Celebrate

Starting in September, we present the Marcum Tech Top 40, where we honor the 40 fastest growing companies in the six technology sectors that we track. Although we hear and read stories about how hard it is to succeed in Connecticut, the successes of these 40 companies that are expanding right here in our state tell a different story.

In October, CTC will bring nearly 200 IT professionals together at the IT Summit. Over the course of nine workshops during the day, IT professionals will be meaningfully engaged in discussion regarding some of the most pressing issues the sector is facing today. Whether cybersecurity threats, big data, or attracting talent, we have experts from around the country leading panels that stimulate discussion and development on these important topics. Throughout the day, we incorporate a significant amount of networking time to allow these professionals to connect, culminating with vital post-Summit networking.

We are in the midst of transitioning the Innovation Summit to a celebration of Innovation in Connecticut no matter where it happens. At the Connecticut Convention Center in November, we will showcase 80 startup companies, and this year, we are expanding to include 40 growth companies and 20 corporations who are also pushing the innovation curve in Connecticut. Not only will we continue to leverage the successful workshop sessions that we pioneered last year, but we will also cap off the event with audience participation to determine the most disruptive technology coming out of Connecticut today. This disruptive tech could be developing in an academic or corporate lab, or in your garage or basement - it doesn’t matter; we want to hear about it, honor it, and share it with the rest of Connecticut and beyond.

We end the year with our Annual Holiday Party in December, where we just have fun, enjoy each other’s company and look back on the accomplishments of 2016.

So, why do we celebrate? To paraphrase our friends at public television, if we don’t do it, who will? A major pillar of CTC is to build and nurture the technology community in Connecticut. The events listed above tie directly into CTC’s strategies in the areas of Talent and Workforce, IT and Infrastructure and Growth Companies. By bringing the community together around these celebrations, we remind ourselves what an important contribution the technology sector is making to Connecticut, but even more critically we let the rest of the world know, as well.

Come join us at any or all of these celebrations!
