About: Please join the UC Davis Department of Statistics for a celebration to start off the new academic year. This event is a great way for new students, continuing students, faculty and staff to meet each other and network. All UC Davis students are welcome. There will also be student, club, and faculty speakers, and a raffle to win Statistics Department t-shirts and sweatshirts. Pizza and drinks will be served.

Hiring Readers for Fall 2016!!
The Department of Statistics is currently hiring Readers for Fall 2016. Readers provide diverse services to instructors as “course assistants." Their tasks normally include the grading of student homework, quizzes, and exams for undergraduate statistics courses. A reader will NOT be teaching or holding office hours. The current pay rate for undergraduate readers is $14 per hour and $14.73 for graduate readers. The reader appointment can be renewed based on performance evaluation from the instructor and the availability of reader hours.
Qualifications:
- Full-time UC Davis registered student (declared statistics majors preferred)
- Student must be in good academic standing
- 3.0 or higher overall and major GPAs (on a 4.00 point scale)
- Must have taken the course or a closely related course and received a “B” or better grade
- Must have excellent time management skills and good attention to details
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- A student may not serve as a reader in a course in which he or she is enrolled.

If you are a new applicant, after your online application is evaluated you may be asked for a reference. You will be contacted by the Undergraduate Program Coordinator if any additional information is needed.
Pete Hall Memorial Conference
Sep. 30th-October 1st
Registration is now open for a special conference in honor of our colleague and friend, Distinguished Professor of Statistics Peter Gavin Hall, who passed away in January 2016. This conference is to be hosted by the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Davis, on September 30 - October1st, 2016, and will be held at the UC Davis Conference Center.
