MVT’s summer of events rolls on through August and early September. Our August “Tunes in the Triangle” free concert on Thursday, August 18 at Milian Park at 5th & Mass features the return of Justin Trawick with original music ranging from folk and bluegrass to funk and hip hop. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or chair, gather the friends, family, kids and pets, and join the MVT CID for free lemonade as we enjoy a neighborly evening with family games, including corn hole, hula hoops, bubbles and more!

On Saturday, September 10, the MVT CID is pleased to bring a free petting zoo to the FRESHFARM MVT Farm Stand at 5th & K Streets from 10 AM to Noon. Our baby zoo will feature bunnies, chicks, ducks, and a baby goat or lamb—all available for gentle petting from our residents and visitors. l'hommage bistro francais welcomes "great chef" roger wiles

Georgetown’s loss as the iconic Bistro Francais closed this spring has translated to great excitement in Mount Vernon Triangle as legendary “Great Chef” Roger Wiles became Chef de Cuisine at L’Hommage Bistro Francais. Chef Wiles brings an impeccable pedigree, starting with his work as sous chef at À l’Ecu de France and chef patron at Own restaurant before becoming the executive chef of The Inn on the Park in London, UK. He then moved to Bermuda to become executive chef at Fourways Inn, and then on to the St. James Club and the Royal Antiguan Ramada Hotel, both in Antigua. In 1997, the Great Chefs television crew caught up with Chef Wiles at the Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where they taped him late one evening and into the early morning for their “Great Chefs of the Caribbean” television series for the Discovery Channel. In 1997, Chef Wiles moved to Georgetown to run Bistro Français. A new menu has been rolled out under Chef Wiles’ skilled direction and you can try the full menu at Restaurant Week prices the entire week of August 15-21.
mvt cid spearheads refinishing for "lift off" and "inspiration" sculptures

For the first time since their installation in 2009, the iconic “Lift Off” (David Black) and “Inspiration” (Ethan Kerber) sculptures at 5th & K Streets are being refinished and repainted. MVT CID Director of Operations, Leon Johnson, headed the effort to advocate for the work to be done. This summer, under the leadership of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, a professional conservator moved forward with the painstaking work of protecting and refinishing these important pieces of public art. Refinished the week of August 8, “Lift Off” has been a bright, sunny landmark for residents and visitors and the refinishing work will ensure that it continues as the sparkling centerpiece of one of the busiest corners in Mount Vernon Triangle. The work on “Inspiration”, the large permanent decorative grate for the ground level fresh air intake at City Vista, will be completed the week of August 15.
mvt cid joins with mpd and moapia for national night out

The MVT CID, Washington Metropolitan Police Department and DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs joined at 5th & K Streets on a beautiful summer evening to celebrate “National Night Out” on Tuesday, August 2. Residents and visitors to the neighborhood came out to meet and mingle with the first responders who protect and serve our community. Children enjoyed the moon bounce and face painting and had a chance to explore and test the lights and sirens on a police car while delicious treats were available from A Baked Joint, Anytime K9, Alta Strada, Texas de Brazil, Le Pain Quotidien and Mandu. Eclectic singer/songwriter Alison Carney performed as part of our “‎Tunes in the Triangle” concert series. A special thank you goes to property owners Steuart Investment Company and Boston Properties for contributing the space needed to have a terrific event.
