Tuesday 16 August

Welcome

It was wonderful to welcome 22 potential families to Open Morning last Wednesday. So many visiting families were genuinely delighted and surprised by the remarkable host students whose confidence, people skills and affection for their College were clearly apparent. In addition, the friendliness and calibre of the students they encountered in classrooms spoke volumes about our College.

I was blown away when a student I had taught in 2002 unexpectedly walked through the door with his wife with a view to enrolling his children. He spoke in glowing terms about the influence Suncoast had had on his life, something he had appreciated more and more with time, and now he wanted nothing more than for his children to attend this College.

Many visitors to our College describe the sense of peace, friendliness and joy that pervades our campus. This is evidence of the presence of God at Suncoast. We are truly blessed to be a part of this community.

Secondary Science Week
Science is exciting and has something for everyone – these are some of the key messages of Science Week in the Secondary School at Suncoast. The fun started on Monday with a drone demonstration on the oval, with many students now planning to run a campaign with their mums and dads in the lead up to Christmas for one of these amazing devices.  Students will also compete in a marshmallow tower competition, enjoy liquid nitrogen icecream, learn about nanotech in the human body and have the chance to be involved in a Sphero wipeout.

Congratulations and thanks to Ms Kristina Hicks, Head of Science, and her team for providing these outstanding opportunities to light and stoke the fire of Science in our students.

Suncoast Hosts and Competes in Debating
Suncoast has been a host school for the Sunshine Coast Schools Chancellor’s Cup Debating Competition this term.  We have received excellent feedback about the grounds, facilities and welcome from visiting officials, competitors and supporters. Special thanks are due to Ms Angie Spears for her outstanding organisation of our venue and helpful manner with the many visitors to our campus, and to Mrs Sharon Kohncke who provided refreshments each week.

Particular mention must be made of the Senior Team, comprising Tristan Bishop, Sela Finau, Taylor Rost, Amelia Southam and coach Mrs Tania Cox, who pulled off four wins from four debates, earning them a place in the finals to be held next term at University of Sunshine Coast.  Read More
