Researchers from the University of North Carolina's Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research and School of Social Work, with funding from CEAL, completed a review of measures and instruments useful for maintaining and improving quality in assisted living. Learn more.
 
In its second year, CMS will make changes to the Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design model: open the model test to new applicants; conduct the model test in three new states; add rheumatoid arthritis and dementia to the clinical categories for which participants may offer benefits; make adjustments to existing clinical categories; and change the minimum enrollment size for some MA and MA-PD plan participants.   CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics has launched the third wave of the National Study of Long-Term Care Providers, a biennial national study of the major sectors of paid, regulated providers of long-term care services. This data collection effort includes a representative sample of assisted living and similar residential care communities across the country. Learn more.
  A study by the Center for Retirement Research has shown a decline in replacement rates for married couples; replacement rates represent the percentage of combined earnings of two working spouses that Social Security replaces when both individuals retire. Learn more.

Connecticut Senator Challenges NHL on Concussion Research
This week, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) sent a letter to the National Hockey League Commissioner, urging the league to establish an independent fund to sponsor research on the linkage of hockey, head trauma, and brain disease. Learn more.

The Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor has issued updated posters under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Employee Polygraph Protection Act. The posters have been updated in accordance with the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015 (IAA), requiring that the DOL and other federal agencies adjust penalties to reflect inflation.  Learn more.
