Hope Sunday

This Sunday—in Fellowship Hall @ 9:30

Living Springs’ Summer Hope Sundays are designed to shed light on issues of life and society where hope is badly needed.  This month's Hope Topic will focus on issues of human trafficking, and how we can work to end this injustice.

Youth/Child Policy Protection Training

This Sunday

For all those who plan on chaperoning, leading or helping out with any event (this includes nursery volunteers) that involves children/youth ages 0-18, you MUST attend this one-hour protection training.
We did amend our policy that one is to be trained every other year.  So, if you were trained in August 2015, you won't need to attend this year's training.  Please join us at 9:30am or 12:15pm in the Sanctuary.

Stuff-a-Bus:
A part of “God’s work. Our hands”

Saturday, August 27

Saturday, August 27 from 9 am to 1 pm we will be collecting backpack items for our backpack program and paper products for local charities.  There is a signup sheet in the administration building to donate your time to pass out flyers at three local supermarkets:  Bi-Lo in Sandhills, IGA in Blythewood, and Wal-Mart on Killian Rd.  As people enter the supermarket, we will give them a flyer with the needed items listed and stuff the bus as we receive the food items when they exit the store.  One of the buses will be on display to promote during the week of Aug. 21.  Contact Karen Kranz for information.

Family Promise

Wednesday, August 31

Can you imagine being homeless, without hope, and unable to provide for your family?  Family Promise helps families who are experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence.  Living Springs has partnered with Trinity UMC in Blythewood and St. Martins in the Fields to assist them in their support of this program.

Wed. August 31 – at Trinity UMC, we will serve dinner and host 5 to 8 pm.  If you feel the spirit-tug to participate, contact Karen Kranz.  Currently, there is one family/2 people.

St. Martins in the Fields is hosting Sept. 4 through 11 – you can obtain a user name as a volunteer and sign up on their online volunteer site. https://secure.rotundasoftware.com/l/web-terminal/master-calendar?liveWebPostId=297948.

TELS
(Traveling Evangels of Living Springs)

A New Way to Give ….

especially great for the summer when you’re away!

No Checks, No Cash…Givelify

Living Springs has entered into a new era: the age of anytime, anywhere digital giving.  We have partnered with Givelify, the free, mobile giving app for churches. Givelify enables individuals to give digitally from anywhere, no checks or cash required; your offerings, tithes, and special gifts can be made right from the palm of your hand. There are no frustrating web forms or text-to-give codes to memorize and better yet, the app is free and totally safe and secure.

Givelify simply provides an alternative format for giving; it is not intended to replace our more traditional means for regular giving…offering envelopes, pew envelopes, or your own bank’s direct bill pay.

Lessons for Sunday, August 21

First Reading: Isaiah 58:9b-14

The Lord promises those who have returned from exile that where justice and mercy prevail, the ruins will be rebuilt and light will rise in the darkness. It is a day for new beginnings.

Psalm 103:1-8

Arise, O God, and rule the earth. (Ps. 82:8)

Second Reading: Hebrews 12:18-29

Using images of Moses from the Old Testament, the writer presents a striking vision of the new covenant of God made possible in Christ. There is no longer fear; only awe in the new promise in Christ into which we are invited.

Gospel: Luke 13:10-17

Jesus heals a woman on the sabbath, offering her a new beginning for her life. When challenged by a narrow reading of the sabbath command, Jesus responds by expanding “sabbath work” to include setting people free from bondage.
