Leadership Training

by Amy Schenkel

One of our team’s most collaborative and supportive partnerships is with VIS (Volunteers in Service), which helps churches in West Michigan be Christ’s servants in their communities.
Each year VIS and the Great Lakes Home Missions team partner to host a Leadership Training Event that helps to equip and inspire ministry leaders in local CRCNA churches.  The event this year promises to be as enriching as those in the past- you can find a list of workshops HERE.

Beyond the convenient schedule and the wisdom you’ll find in the variety of workshops, here are a few more reasons why you and your church’s leadership team should participate in this annual event:
  1. You are not alone
One of my favorite scenes in the evening actually comes between workshops, as elders and deacons and lay leaders from diverse congregations interact over refreshments.  These conversations remind us all that the church is much bigger than the walls of our church building, and together we look for ways to be God’s light in this world. The "New Mission Agency": What's happening?

In Spring 2016, The CRCNA Board of Trustees approved an organizational framework which includes the agency’s key outcomes, vision, mission, and core postures.
  • The executive leadership team of the new mission agency established an operations team to assist in further refinement and implementation of the organizational structure for the new mission agency. The operations team has three broad areas of responsibility: capacity building and innovation, regional mission teams, and mission support. These areas will be the three main functional groups of the new mission agency.
  • At the September 2016 board meetings, the new 24-member board will have several important tasks and proposals before it, including the following: MORE

Our Journey 2020 - The Ministry Plan of the Christian Reformed Church

After listening carefully to members and leaders of Christian Reformed churches across North America, a set of desired futures has emerged. These desired futures provide a focus for what we, as the Christian Reformed Church, together believe that God is calling us to be and to do, resulting in a plan that will assist congregations in developing strategies and accessing resources appropriate to their unique ministry contexts and opportunities. MORE

Five desired futures have been identified. See the Leadership (Desired Future 3) video of the Our Journey series. In it, three people describe how their churches helped to shape them as leaders.

Prayer Focus

by Mary Sterenberg

Jump start your Ministry this September by attending a practical and inspirational prayer conference: The Power of Prayer.

We will look at what it means to pray not simply our will, but God's will. The third conference in the Dunamis Project series focuses on prayer that not only looks to God's actions in the future, but seeks to participate with Him in shaping the future. Some of the pieces participants will learn from this conference include: the authority they have been given in prayer, how to act not simply as one who prays, but one who intercedes with God through prayer and how to pray with vision and power.
