Albany State hires CIAA senior assoc commish for external business administration Gordon as its new AD, effective September 1. Gordon will oversee the athletics program as it officially merges with Darton State in January. ASU Prez Dunning: "I am grateful to Parker Executive Search and our search committee members who did an extraordinary job of identifying the best candidate for this role." Gordon says she looks forward to joining ASU "at a time of transformational change" and plans to "build a program that continues to promote student-athlete success and engages the entire Albany community, our employees and our students." - link
Central Oklahoma raised $5.076M in FY15-16 as part of its Complete the Dream fundraising effort, smashing its previous record of $444,833 set in 2013. So far, the school has received $12M for the Complete the Dream initiative, and renovations undertaken so far include upgrades to the softball stadium (currently under construction), to be followed by a Sports Performance Center training facility at the football stadium. UCO also plans to build a 40K-45K-sq-ft Academic Enhancement Center for student-athletes. AD Muller: "The Complete the Dream campaign has inspired alumni. To have this much success so quickly speaks to the loyalty and pride felt by so many for this program. The momentum we have right now is undeniable." - link
The PacWest has entered into an agreement with Collegiate Sports Management Group (CSMG) for the latter to provide sponsorship, content distribution and marketing, including digital and social media, licensing and eCommerce. Commish Hogue: "This partnership with CSMG is an excellent opportunity to further build upon our corporate partnership base and incorporate best practices across all content, media and marketing disciplines that will insure great benefit in multiple ways for our conference, member institutions, our athletes, coaches, alumni and fans. We are thrilled to be working with a pioneer in the Division II market." CSMG CEO Schreck calls it a "privilege" to add PacWest as its first west coast conference client. - link
Notre Dame de Namur announces the return of T&F as a varsity sport for 2017-18, which will make it the eighth in the PacWest. AD Doody: "We will grow the program in phases with the field events being the last pieces to be filled. Recruiting will begin this year so that they are ready to compete in the 2017-18 academic year." The program will be helmed by XC HC Nunes: "By offering track and field it gives the current cross country runners and prospective student-athletes the opportunity to compete throughout the entire academic year. I look forward to expanding the program and developing the other event areas." NDNU, which last fielded a T&F team in 1998, will compete in distance, sprinting, long jump and triple jump. - link
Rollins and the SSC are teaming up with the Central Florida Sports Commission (CFSC) to submit bids to host NCAA championships in men's and women's golf, Men's & Women's Tennis and Softball. SSC Commish Pasque: "Central Florida is one of the premier entertainment and hospitality destinations in the world, and we are excited about the possibility of showcasing this region to NCAA student-athletes, coaches and fans." The NCAA is expected to announce finalists for championship locations in October with final destinations named in December. - link
Ohio Dominican is partnering with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission (GCSC) to submit NCAA championship bids for WBB (2017, 2019-22). GCSC Executive Director Logan: "All five of these universities were amazing partners in our bidding efforts..." [...] "Regardless of profile, our commitment is to have NCAA national championships crowned in Columbus, including future Olympians in many sports, and show what makes the Columbus community a premier sports destination." - link
The Kansas City Sports Commission (KCSC) has submitted bids to continue hosting the DII FB championship at Children's Mercy Park and MSOC and WSOC championsnips at Swope Soccer Village. In addition, the KCSC has submitted a bid to host DII VB championships in any year between 2018-22 with the MIAA and Rockhurst as co-hosts. According to the Kansas City Star, the city may be aided by the current "political landscape" after those submitting bids were able to check "no" to both questionnaire items concerning so-called "Religious Freedom Bill" and "bathroom bill," respectively. - link
More bids, this time from the Sioux Falls Sports Authority (SFSA), which has submitted bids to host several DII championships including: wrestling (2020 and 2022), outdoor T&F (2019), VB (2019, 2021, 2022), and MBB and WBB (every year 2018-2022). Bids are supposed to remain private, but SFSA Executive Director Miller says that financial details of bids have a way of slipping through: "It all goes around, so everybody's talking about everything." - link
The Detroit Sports Commission submitted a bevy of hosting bids to the NCAA, including a proposal to to host the DII & DII FB National Championships on the same day in 2018 through 2021 at Ford Field. DII Softball, as well as Men's & Women's Golf were part of the materials with Wayne State playing a key role as host. - link

+ Lander names Lane asst AD for sports media. Lane replaces the retiring Stoner, who served as SID for 21 years. At 24, Lane, who has worked as a broadcaster for a number of outlets including ESPN3, will become one of the youngest SIDs in the country. - link

The Concordia St. Paul FB team begins a new tradition this week by traveling to Camp Riley to continue "BuildingOnTheRock." In addition to open practices and scrimmages, the team will host two youth clinics for kids aged 5-12. HC Currier: "We are trying to build our team chemistry to another level." [...] "We aren't just going on a football practice trip to Riley. We are building important life skills that we expect to help our kids on the football field and in the classroom. But this transcends football and even college. We are building life experiences for our players." In addition to practice and youth camps, players will draft teams which will compete against each other throughout the season by accumulating points in competitions related to academics and community service. - link

Bellarmine hires Adams to be its first wrestling HC while effectively absorbing Adams' former roster from his previous stop at now-closed St. Catharine (KY - NAIA), helping Adams fulfill a promise he made to his team that he would find a landing spot in the event of a closure. AD Wiegandt: "Interim President Dr. Doris Tegart and our Board of Trustees were very alert and strategic in grabbing the opportunity to absorb St. Catharine's wrestling program. The program will flourish at Bellarmine and be one of the seven GLVC teams to compete for a conference championship." + Midwestern State announces it will build a satellite campus in Flower Mound, TX. Officials believe the new 30K-sq-ft building will be ready for classes by fall 2017.
