Hey there!

What’s been your favorite part of summer so far?

Mine didn’t have anything to do with writing or reading.

My second born passed his driving test—finally! (He’s about to start his senior year in high school.) He called while I was out to lunch and said the driver’s ed teacher had an unexpected opening and could test him same day. It was pouring! I was shocked they would even consider testing on such a miserable day. Why not wait for a sunny day when the roads would be dry? That’s what I would’ve done. But as I sat at lunch going over this with my husband, I started to see a pattern. I’ve spent a lot of my life putting things off because I’m waiting for sunny days.

I’m so happy for my son, and I hope he has gotten more than his license out of this experience. I hope he realizes he can start—and achieve—absolutely anything regardless of the day … or the weather. (We can too, you know? It’s just easy to forget that.)

Some other highlights of my summer include:
  • Reading Rachel Gibson’s newest release JUST KISS ME. She’s one of those authors I’ve been reading for what seems like forever, so I have a special attachment to her. She’s an “auto buy” for me, and this book didn’t disappoint. In fact, I thought the first half of the book was pretty magical. It hit all the right notes for me. Don’t you love it when that happens?
  • Discovering the television series "Poldark" on Amazon Instant Video. It's a PBS/BBC production, which will return for Season 2 in September. I am in absolute love with this series and the main character Ross Poldark. Talk about a hero!
  • Finishing THE SWEET SPOT (Arlington Aces 2). Helen Anne and Giovanni’s story is complete! I walked around for an entire day feeling lost without them, but I can’t wait to introduce them to you in November, and I’m already on to THE SQUEEZE PLAY.
AND I gotta ask … Have you discovered Poldark yet? If so, we have a lot to talk about! Seriously. Let's get together on Facebook very soon (or email me).

Happy reading (and watching),

Elley

P.S. Thanks to Ross Poldark, I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes a hero unforgettable. Looks definitely help! I also have a thing for heroes who are protectors, but I’ve read and watched plenty of stories with handsome, protective heroes I’ve easily forgotten, so obviously something was missing. Do you have any ideas about or examples of memorable heroes?
