Lundy's Lane Battlefield Park: Phase One Opening
The City of Niagara Falls is excited to announce the completion of Phase 1 of Lundy’s Lane Battlefield Park. An opening ceremony will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to come out to celebrate and explore this beautiful and significant park!
The North portion of the Battlefield has been enhanced to include improved pathways, interpretive signage and a rejuvenation of the area previously known as Shangri-La planted by former resident Ruth Redmond.
The park improvements are part of the first of three potential phases outlined in the Battlefield Master Plan.
The three potential phases are intended to provide greater exposure to the Battle of Lundy’s Lane area, create a destination for cultural tourism and expose residents of Niagara Falls to the history of our community.
The refreshed park is a beautiful and important historic destination for tourists and community members alike. Please join us to experience it for yourself!

City Wide Tree Inventory
Conducting a tree inventory is a proactive management strategy that many municipalities throughout North America are undertaking. Ultimately a first step in urban forest management, the data that is being collected will be used by City staff to further refine ongoing maintenance strategies, such as Emerald Ash Borer management, hazard mitigation, and planning for biodiversity to name a few.
Over the next six to eight weeks, Niagara Falls residents can expect to run into one of seven Davey Resource Group team members working throughout the City. These individuals will be collecting 22 attributes for approximately 30,000 trees along the City of Niagara Falls right-of-ways and parks. Information that is being recorded includes tree identification, measurements, condition ratings and appraisal values, using the latest in GPS and GIS technology.
The City will use this data to better manage their growing assets over the next several years. This information can also be inputted into peer-reviewed analysis tools such as i-Tree to better quantify in monetary terms, the ecological benefits Niagara Falls urban forests provides for their community such as storm-water retention and carbon sequestration.

Back to School Safety
In just a few weeks, summer will be coming to an end and school will be back in session! The City would like to remind residents of the necessity of driving safely through School Zone and Crossing locations as we enter the season of reduced daylight hours.
All drivers must:
- STOP: When you approach a School Crossing Location
- OBEY: The Highway Traffic Act
- RESPECT: The Crossing Guard
- PATIENCE: Remain stopped until everyone has cleared the crossing - including the guard!
- PROCEED: When safe to do so
You could be fined a minimum of $150.00 if found guilty of an offence - Highway Traffic Act Regulation Section 176. Areas designated as NO STOPPING near school zones are installed for the safety of all children, parents, and faculty.

Open Air Burning Ban Lifted
The Niagara Falls Fire Department has lifted the open air burning ban for Niagara Falls, in place since June 28th, 2016. The recent rainfall coupled with forecasts predicting additional rain means the fire risk has decreased.
The open air burning ban was put in place nearly seven weeks ago, due to the City’s prolonged hot and dry weather, and the increased risk of a fire burning out of control by quickly spreading to nearby grass and plants.
A reminder to residents that recreational fires are not permitted in the City of Niagara Falls. Small, confined, cooking fires that meet the established guidelines are permitted in the City.
The Niagara Falls Fire Department would like to thank residents for their patience during the latest burn ban, and emphasize fire safety is everyone’s responsibility.
