Our next series will comprise of a challenge where we ask you to identify countries where French is spoken. Have fun!

This country has been a melding place of various African people since its conception. In 1637 France made initial contact but this country was first invated by two related groups: the Anyi and the Baoule.

The French government gained more power of the country in 1843 and 1844, when treaties treaties were signed with the kings of the Grand Bassam and Assinie regions, placing their territories under a French protectorate. The French continued to extend their control until they dominated in 1915.

French is the official language used throughout the country, however there are over sixty native languages.

Favorite drinks among the villagers include palm wine and home-brewed beer.

What country is this?

Answer: Côte d'Ivoire. This country is located on the South Coast of West Africa. Once they gained indepence the people of Côte d'Ivoire began to develop a national consciousness. Those who reside their consider themselves to be Ivoirians first, and then as members of a particular ethnic group.
