Taanishi, IPAA members and allies:
I write this to you from the homeland of the Métis Nation where I had the privilege of accepting an Honourary Membership Award on behalf of IPAA from the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology (CITT/ICTS).
Click here to read my acceptance speech that became a call to action for meaningful cross-cultural collaboration in the performing arts.
Other achievements by Indigenous leaders at IPAA include an New Performance Text Honourable Mention for Two Indians by Falen Johnson at the Summerworks Performance Festival as well as the announcement of Jill Carter hired to a tenure track position at the University of Toronto.
Intertribal Gathering website is live.
IPAA's Intertribal Gathering features a Yukon First Nations performance showcase along with critical discussions about presenting and producing in rural and remote communities. Our gathering follows the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective – Collectif des commissaires autochtones‘ Yukon gathering Kwä̀n Mày Dáyè Dàátthʼi in Whitehorse: September 28 – 30, 2016.
IPAA launched a website with details on our gathering and ACC has an ongoing fundraiser for their event where you can donate here.
If you are interested in attending the please apply for travel funding from the Canada Council for the Arts (Theatre / Dance / Interarts). Applications are due 6 weeks prior to your travel so please connect with your program ASAP if you are planning on joining us.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in the Yukon!
