POWERING PERFORMANCE. INSPIRING EXCELLENCE
– A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

"What else to say about Penny Oleksiak but 'Wow!'  An absolutely incredible fourth medal and this time gold, with an Olympic record in the 100m Freestyle.  What a wonderful story she has become at these Games.

Athletes affiliated with the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific continue to impress in Rio, as well. Of Team Canada's 24 medallists so far, 13 of them are CSI Pacific-affiliated athletes, or a fantastic 54%!

And there's the opportunity to have six more CSI Pacific-affiliated medallists by 7:30am tomorrow! Our rowing crews in Women's Lightweight Double Sculls row for gold at 6:32am, while the Men's Coxless Four also go for gold in their final at 7:24am.

Then, at 10:30am, three of the world's best - Evan Dunfee, Inaki Gomez, Ben Thorne - compete in the Men’s 20km Race Walk with more medals up for grabs. Want to know more about Race Walking? Check out this great Team Canada 20km Race Walk Cheat Sheet!

We're blown away by how our affiliated athletes have done so far. We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!"

Six CSI Pacific-Affiliated Athletes to Row for Gold on Friday

Two Victoria-based boats have advanced to medal finals in Rio.

Lindsay Jennerich (Victoria, BC) and Patricia Obee (Victoria, BC) finished with the second-fastest time in the women’s lightweight double sculls semifinals. Canada's crew of Will Crothers (Kingston, ON), Tim Schrijver (Thedford, ON), Conlin McCabe (Brockville, ON) and Kai Langerfeld (North Vancouver, BC) in the men's fours held off the Netherlands to complete their semifinal in second and advance.

Both the women's lightweight double sculls and the men's fours finals will take place on Friday morning at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

The men's quadruple sculls team of Rob Gibson (Kingston, ON), Julien Bahain (Angers, France), Pascal Lussier (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QB) and Will Dean (Kelowna, BC) finished second in the B Final.

Canada's Day in the Pool is Golden, and then Some!

Penny Oleksiak's gold medal rightfully took the headlines, and other Canadian swimmers had a strong day in the pool, as well.

Hilary Caldwell (White Rock, BC) came in 2nd in her Women’s 200m Breaststroke heat and topped that by winning her semi-final in the evening. Hilary goes for gold on Friday at 6:03pm.

In the Women's 200m Breastroke final, Kierra Smith (Kelowna, BC) finished in a solid 7th place.

Yuri Kirsil (Calgary, AB) raced in the 50m Freestyle earlier in the day, finishing 6th in his heat, which meant he did not advance.

Sailing

With weather much improved in Rio today mixed Nacra 17 sailors Nikola Girke (West Vancouver, BC) and Luke Ramsay (Vancouver, BC) raced four times. After six total races completed out of 12, Ramsay & Girke sit 10th overall, which would get them to the Medal Race if their position holds. Races 7-9 take place Saturday morning.

Cycling - Team Pursuit

Georgia Simmerling (West Vancouver, BC) is at her third Olympics in her third different sport, this time in Cycling - Team Pursuit. She and her teammates, including Laura Brown (Vancouver, BC), raced the preliminaries this afternoon, qualifying for the heats after a 4th place finish.

In the morning, the team of Chaim Schalk (Red Deer, AB) and Ben Saxton (Calgary, AB) lost to Cuba in straight sets, 2-0. GETTING SOCIAL IN RIO!

Collaborate. Serve. Innovate.

Collaborate

The Canadian Sport Institute is proud to be a partner of Own The Podium. The federal government and Own The Podium instituted a program to have $6 million annually used for Olympic and Paralympic summer teams as part of their team sports strategy. This is already paying large dividends in Rio, where Canada is represented by five teams at the Rio Olympics, the most since the 1984 Los Angeles Games. CSI Pacific is proud to work closely with three of these teams: Field Hockey Canada (Men), Rugby Canada (Women’s Sevens), and Soccer Canada (Women), who centralize teams in Vancouver and Victoria.
