Volunteers build playground at McKinney Park in one day

Less than six hours after starting, 238 volunteers from the community and the CarMax Foundation finished building a new playground at McKinney Park, featuring climbing areas, a slide, and tire swings.

City News Briefs

  • Work crews have installed a 174-foot cement & steel bridge at Orenco Woods Nature Park. The bridge is one of three at the park and is part of the Rock Creek Trail extension. It weighs 90 tons and was lifted in place by a crane. Park construction is scheduled to be complete in Winter 2016-17.
  • SHARC will close for annual maintenance and improvements on Tuesday, September 6, through Sunday, September 18, and will reopen on Monday, September 19.
  • Clear skies inspired 85 people to attend the “Introduction to Stargazing” event this month at the Brookwood Library, with five telescopes set up to view planets.
