Healthy Nature, Healthy People!
by Rose Ursem

Many Studies show that “children who are connected to nature will want to enjoy it and save it, now and in the future”. Nature also improves mental and physical well-being, and Conversation Week coming up on the 10-18th of September this year is the perfect opportunity to get yourself and the kids outside to appreciate what our beautiful world has to offer. The Department of Conservation has many thought enriching activities to offer, from what you can do at home, out and about or even entering a competition. There are many different things to do to suit any age, from an art club to working in a nursery for the Kaipatiki Project, or even learning about our local harbour; the Hauraki Gulf. Find out about what events are happening in your area at this link: http://www.doc.govt.nz/news/events/

Project 'Love your streams'

There is a network of beautiful streams linking the Waitakere Ranges to the Waitematā Harbour, these streams are in need of attention as they are overly polluted and neglected. Ecomatters has a range of projects that support the development of these streams and is aimed to keep these elegant streams flowing.

The vision at the heart of their campaign is to restore and conserve the streams in our community, through help from individuals, volunteers and community groups.

The ‘Love your streams’ campaign consists of three projects which are:

  • Project Twin Streams

  • Sustaining Our Streams

  • La Rosa Daylighting Project

For information about these projects and similar campaigns visit Ecomatters official website on this link. http://www.ecomatt
