It takes hard work to feel 'Lucky'
I received a text message the other day, from a lady who has had quite a journey with her little horse. She has put in time, effort, and money along the way, to develop the relationship between her and her little horse.
The text message read along the lines that she was riding with a group, and someone in the group said that they were so lucky to have such a good horse and then they went on to say that the horse the lady was riding (the lady that texted me) had come a long way, to be able to be ridden out with a group of horses comfortably. And this made her feel great, to be recognised for how far they had come together, but she then said to me "But you know what, I won't feel 'lucky' in a couple of years, I will feel proud of me and him, because it takes a lot of work to "feel lucky".
I sent her a text back saying that I loved that, and I will be using it as a topic for my next newsletter!
Phil and I have always said "LUCK is spelt W.O.R.K" and that applies to everything - even to our horses.
I had the same thought today - I spent 3 hours filming the foundation ridden skills for the upcoming DVD, and Cooper was an absolute star - sure he got impatient a few times, but he didn't 'play up' the way that he would have once upon a time. I said to the videographer "I'm lucky" talking about how great Cooper was. I'm not "lucky" - I've put the blood, sweat and tears into that horse over the years and now he is educated - he's not 'quiet' as many people say to me (you are so lucky he is so quiet), he isn't quiet - he's educated. There is a big difference.
So next time you feel 'lucky' - give yourself a pat on the back, because you have put the effort in to feel that way - and next time you want to tell someone they are lucky - give them a pat on the back!
Happy Trails,
Tk
