Funding Workshop = Many people asked about this as places were limited and got booked up very quickly. This event is not an internal SVS event, we had invited someone down to run this for us inline with bidding cycles etc. Please not that I have registered everyone's interest in the event and when we run one again we will let you all know.
Volunteering & Voluntary Sector Information
Volunteering Benefits Everyone
You may have seen the report in the Daily Echo that Southampton University has published a report stating that that those over te age of 40 really benefit from Volunteering. The NCVO take on it is quite interesting. Are we missing out on tapping into older volunteers?

Volunteering in Prisons
Clinks have released a report about the impacts of volunteers on the lives and rehabilitation of prisoners. As a side note Clinks also produce lots of resources about involving volunteers with criminal records.

Shortage of Mentors
So, last Round Up I linked to an article about how the voluntary sector could "stop children services from keeling over" this news from Volunteering Matters notes that only 3% of children in care have an independent visitor or mentor.

Street Life
This isn't a news story, but I've found it useful - people who were looking to volunteer wanting information. But Street Life is a local social network - I've recognised some of the people who are posting events. But free advertising for events and/or services you offer.

Cyber Security
Is the charity behind when it comes to cyber security? Charity Digital News (not surprisingly given their name...) have suggested that we need to make it a top priority. I'm not disagreeing with them, they make some interesting points,

Volunteer Certificate Scheme - Nominations Open

As mentioned in the last newsletter we were just about to open nominations for the volunteer certificate scheme. Well, we're happy to let you know that the nominations are now open! You now have until the 14th October to get your nominations in for the ceremony on the 10th November!
The certificate scheme is a brilliant way to show your volunteers that you value them by giving them external recognition for the work that you've done for your organisation.
It doesn't cost you anything to put your volunteers forward - just a few forms to complete to tell us why they're amazing!

SVS Members Survey - Kindle Fire to be won!

As SVS enters its next round of forward planning we’d like to get your views on the services we offer the sector; so we can offer you more of what’s useful, and less of what isn’t.  We’d also like to know how the current financial climate is affecting your capacity to offer services and manage volunteers.  Please help us to help you by completing our short survey monkey questionnaire.  It will only take 5 – 10 minutes of your time, but to us its invaluable!

As an incentive we are offering an Amazon Fire tablet to one lucky respondent, which we’ll draw from a hat at SVS AGM on October 7th

Wheatsheaf - Work with NEET Young people.

Duncan Breckell will be coming to the Volunteer Coordinators Forum to talk to everyone about the work that they are doing. However, before the session here's some more information.

We work with NEET young people, some with an offending background, but not exclusively with that client group.

Our programme is centred around behavioural development and achieving a shift in attitude to achieve positive outcomes.

As part of this personal development a voluntary opportunity with a local charity would be very beneficial to some young people to help to reinforce the positive work we are doing with them.

From Imogen...

Hi Gang, lots going on in August & September covering lots of different things. Make sure you book on to the events as some will have found with the funding workshop - they get fully booked quickly!

Remember to keep us up to date with your volunteering opportunities.

We'll be soon sending out our mailing to find out how many volunteers have been placed. Please don't forget to respond!
