Gala Thanks

Last weekend's 60th Anniversary Great Gatsby themed Gala was a tremendous success, with over 160 people attending to help celebrate.  Importantly it was successful not only financially, but also in entertaining and engaging the community in true celebration of the club and its heritage.

There are a number of "Thank-yous" that must be extended, to people and organizations that deserve to be recognized for their efforts in making the event possible.  Without them, we couldn't have pulled it off:
  • Thank you to our Gala organizing committee of:  Christina Hall, Sarah Farr, Sandy Holt, and Brad Wilson - who spent several days decorating the club for the event, only to be called away by work, precluding his attendance at the event itself!  Thanks also to our Bartenders: Biz and David Agnew, Graeme Shea, and Jacob Webster, and to our auctioneers: Ken Nyhuus, Simon Aspinwall, and Glenn McKellar
  • Thank you to the many donors of items for the live and silent auctions.
  • Thank you to Moosehead Breweries for the donation of two full kegs of beer
  • Thank you to Houston Marine for lending us our dock-stage, which they kindly delivered, set up, and retrieved afterwards (If you liked it, and are in need of a dock, we recommend you contact Greg Houston at Houston Marine!)
  • Thank you to  Sobeys in Fenelon Falls for the donation of all of our soft drinks

Gala Photos

We know everyone enjoyed themselves, because we have pictures to prove it! (Thank you to Dave Lightbound and Margaret Wilkins, our "Official Photographers"!)

Please peruse the slideshow, and download images as you wish, from the pictures on the event website . We will add this gallery to the SLSC website, in due course, as well.

Limited Edition Special Offer

At the Gala, our auctioneers, in their zealous efforts to keep things moving, sold off some limited edition note cards featuring the work of artist Joan Young, at less than their actual cost to us!  (Congratulations to the purchasers who leapt at that deal!)

We have commissioned a few extra packages of these note cards, packaged in bundles of 10 limited edition Note Cards, featuring the work of Joan Horsfall Young.  The art is a reproduction of a painting that was auctioned off at the SLSC 50th anniversary Gala, 10 years ago, and is replicated below.

If you have an interest in purchasing a bundle of 10 of these note cards, with envelopes, we will make a limited number available at a price of $35... please email me to indicate your interest.

Prizegiving and AGM

The annual prizegiving/awards evening will be held August 26th, at the Sturgeon Point Union Church, commencing at 6:00 p.m.  While we recognize that this may be a little bit early for those parents coming up from the City, it does ensure things wind up in time for the sailors to get back to the club in time for the last dance of the season without abbreviating that fun!

Prizegiving will be followed by the club's Annual General Meeting, at which all members are welcome.

End of Season Clean-up
and Closing of the Club

Saturday morning, the 27th of August, we welcome  volunteers to assist with the closing up of the club for the season.  Details re: start time to follow.
