Events Update: Theater Field Trip, Dine Around Beaverton & Beyond, General Meeting, and looking ahead to September (already) 
Viva Village General Meeting

It was great to see so many people at the General Meeting this past Saturday (August 13).
It was a perfect time for answering questions and sharing information.

We look forward to getting together again on Saturday, September 10th. 10:30–12:30 in the same location, the Cathy Stanton Room of the Beaverton City Library.

Theater Field Trip

"The Peer and the Peri," a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan

Meet in the theater lobby a little before 3:00 for the 3:30 performance. Tickets are $15.00, with no reserved seating.

In celebration of Alpenrose’s 100th Aniversary and just in time for the elections. Gilbert and Sullivan's seventh light opera contains some of Sullivan’s finest music, filled with the enchantment of fairyland, the House of Lords at it’s most humorous, and costumed in the beautiful art nouveaux period of a hundred years ago.

Java Lounge is at the corner of NW Cornell and Dale Ave. There is a parking lot in back (turn right on Dale from Cornell). A ramp for wheelchairs leads up from the parking lot. Lots of room to park on Cornell as well.

THPRD Koll Center Wetlands—Fanno Farmhouse
Fanno Creek Trail

September 3, 2016, 9:00 a.m. 

Meet on Stratus Street near the Creekside intersection at 9:00 a.m.

Walk south along Creekside Place and down the driveway between the big business buildings. You will be walking on private property to the back of the parking lots to see the public THPRD wetlands and wildlife, so it’s good to be there on a weekend or holiday.

Fanno Creek FarmhouseGo north behind the Rivermark Credit Union and around to the 100 year old Fanno Farmhouse and then left (west) to the Fanno Creek Trail.

We will go to the third bridge over Fanno Creek where there is a huge sign explaining what life along Fanno Creek used to be like. The total hike is 1 mile.

The trail is ADA accessible except for a slightly steeper grade for about 20 feet up to the first bridge over Fanno Creek,

  • Why older adults lose independence, and how to avoid or postpone this
  • What types of exercises are important
  • Where to find available programs
  • What to look for in a trained, professional physical therapist
Participate: (using a chair for safety)
  • Key exercises and balance activities
  • Two balance and mobility tests to help identify risk of falling
