Hi <<First Name>>:

SAVE THE DATE!

The DWP has announced the time and place of their next public meeting: Tuesday, September 20th, where ALL of your voices are needed. Last time we rounded up hundreds. Let's make it to 1000!

Time: 6:30 pm
Place: John Marshall High School
Address: 3939 Tracy Street, Los Angeles, 90027
What: This is the followup meeting with CD13, CD4 and LADWP regarding the restoration of water into the Silver Lake Reservoir. The DWP will present their findings for groundwater, recycled water, storm water with timelines for construction etc.

WALKING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Want to see how beautiful, diverse, and creative our Silver Lake area is and help get others involved?

One of our members, Freda Shen, has divided Silver Lake into 12 walking districts. We need people to go door-2-door and drop off flyers. No knocking on doors or arguing, just getting the word out by leaving our flyers.

The flyers simply ask people to sign the petition and to join our organization.  Figure on about 6 hours over a few days or in a single day, less if you do it with a friend so you can cover both sides of the street at once. Great exercise too!

Only 3 districts left - first come, first choice! Email us at team@refillsilverlakenow.org and we will send you info on where these districts are.  You'll get maps, a starter-kit of 100 flyers, and lots of thanks!

Sign the Petition...
We have a whopping 1000+ signatures so far. We have more than 600 hard copy and 400 online. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to also sign our petitionWe are asking the DWP to do what they promised - refill the Silver Lake Reservoir back to the traditional 440 feet above sea level.

THE FACTS...

The DWP said at the June 30th meeting they would refill it May 1. Is that true?
Unfortunately, we don't think so. The DWP has said it “hopes” to refill the Silver Lake Reservoir, starting May 1, 2017, with a reclaimed water source. However, it is our understanding that it would take a minimum of 3 years to get the infrastructure, piping, permits and regulatory approvals needed to accomplish that. We have asked the DWP for specifics and as of now, we have not received any. So without any timetables or plans, we feel the May 1st date is truly arbitrary.

Are you against making the area more beautiful?
Not at all. We are open to any and all discussions as long as any beautification doesn’t delay the refilling of the reservoir as scheduled (est. December 2016). There are plenty of ways to beautify after the water is back in. And we plan on asking the DWP to do just that!

People say you’re being exclusive by not commercializing the reservoir.
We argue it’s the opposite. Anyone is welcome to come and enjoy our lovely, tranquil neighborhood. Until the reservoir was emptied, it was an oasis, and it will be again soon.

Who are you?
We are a passionate group of community stakeholders that care deeply about the environmental preservation and sustainability of our neighborhood. We don’t have our heads in the sand about the relevance of water during a drought or fail to acknowledge that climate changes will affect our cultural and civic resources. We just want a future that maintains this incredible asset in our midst. Change can—and will—happen, but let’s not allow the DWP to renege on their promise.

DWP-DO WHAT'S PROMISED!
