Hello,

Since we last got in touch a Festival programme has been developing that will see Bloomsbury full to the brim with artistic, scientific and literary events for all ages and tastes, from breakfast until late in the evenings. The events take place in the streets, parks, museums, galleries, laboratories, public and usually private buildings of this vibrant part of London.

We have some news to share and a sneak peek at how the Festival programme is looking, read on...

News

Festival image 2016
We are delighted to announce the winner of the design competition for our 2016 image as Wies van der Wal. This uplifting joyous illustration cleverly combines the celebratory essence of the Festival with this year’s theme, language.
You can read more about the competition here.
Festival Stories
We have a new blog on the website where you can find out more about the work we do and the people behind the events. First up is our Festival in a Box project that helps older people with dementia experience Bloomsbury Festival.
You can read all about Festival in a Box here.

Festival Programme (a sneak peek)

On Friday 21 October Step Out Store Street will explore the language of dance, with the street transformed by more than 100 artists and dancers, to become a vibrant public stage for different forms of dance from Bollywood and Swing to B-boy and Line dancing.

Back by popular demand pyrotechnics specialists Pa-BOOM’s bring an echo of 2015  with one of their mesmerising fire installations. Store Street’s mix of independent shops and restaurants transform into arts and music venues, each revealing a unique encounter within. There will be plenty of food available from the street’s cafés and restaurants, as well as street food stalls and pop-up bars.

On Saturday 22 October UCL will be our LANGUAGE OF... Hub. Bloomsbury Festival takes over the main Quad at UCL to present a day of intriguing adventures, fun performance, music and extraordinary language based technology.

On Saturday evening at SOAS the LINGUISTIC HEART OF BLOOMSBURY, you are invited to a fantastic free World Music stage and to engage in a fun linguistics marketplace in the brand new atrium of Senate House.

On Sunday 23 October there will be a LITERATURE pop-up Festival at Goodenough College featuring five top Bloomsbury Publishing houses plus stars of the literary world.

On Sunday join us at CONWAY HALL which is home to the Ethical Society. We will be hosting talks, debates and performance all about the language of politics and social change.

And there is more!
There will be a soundscape by Lena Herzog placed at the British Museum; Stand Up Comedy, the Good:ensemble: an exceptionally popular new symphony orchestra; Shakespearean language: Leading Theatre Directors battle it out.

No F in Cuneiform: Street theatre meets the British Museum. Is it a machine? No its Dr Irving Finkle, the British Museums' Keeper of Ancient Mesopotamian script! Under the Microscope: A new art installation created at Great Ormond Street Hospital that explores medical language in the context of family illness.

Calling Tree: an afternoon long performance of aerial artists set in an ancient tree in St Georges Gardens. Bird-like calls, songs and messages echo from above.
