Cash vs. asset transfers in Punjab's poorest areas
Recent evidence from Bangladesh shows that asset transfer programs can be an effective anti-poverty tool. But would equivalent cash transfers work better? A project supported by the International Growth Centre is testing this question in Punjab's poorest districts. It will determine whether people prefer asset or cash transfers, which of the two have higher returns, how much those returns are influenced by markets versus household decisions and what the consequences are for village economies.
