News from the Studio

One thing about living in a beautiful part of the world is that we have many visitors who come to see us and this summer was no exception.  It has been a great time to catch up with friends, family and clients as well as welcoming newcomers to the Studio!  Just this past weekend a dear friend from my childhood came to visit…we had not seen each other in thirty years!

Last week, another special visitor arrived from Maple Ridge, BC.  My business coach, Vicki McLeod from Main Street Communications came with her husband to visit the Studio and we had a lovely dinner together.  We have been connected online for a few years now as she coached me live over Skype, but it was a thrill to finally be able to give her a hug in real life!  Hail to the internet for creating new relationships!

I have been blessed to have wonderful customers who love and support the work I do. Some, like Jim and Mieke from Winnipeg become collectors.  They arrived in Kimberley for their summer vacation and since they are two of my favourite people, I always look forward to their arrival.  I had a painting in my Studio called “Columbia Wetlands” which has been a crowd favourite…I have almost sold it many times and yet it just stayed hanging on my wall.  I was beginning to wonder if it would ever sell.  Little did I know that since they first started visiting the Studio several years ago, Jim and Mieke have loved “Columbia Wetlands”.  On their drive to Kimberley it was decided that if the painting was still here they would buy it.  So after many years, “Columbia Wetlands” now has a new home in Winnipeg along with 4 other Caprice paintings.  This just proves my theory that every painting truly does have an owner and sometimes you just have to be patient!  They all go to their proper homes when the time is right.  Now I have a large blank wall in the Studio that I must fill with a brand new painting.  How exciting is that?

Painting from the Vault!

One of the joys of being a landscape painter is that I have the opportunity to travel to some of the most beautiful places and then paint them.  Emerald Lake was no exception and the amazing scenery there provided me with inspiration for several paintings like this one:

Looking to Fall!

Sadly the “1st Saturday’s Art Market” in August was rained out!  The rains were so bad that I didn’t want to risk having my paintings damaged so I opted out at the last minute.  Luckily the weather was better the following weekend when I took part in the “Columbia Basin Cultural Tour”.  It was fun inviting new people into the Studio!

I am now gearing up for the final "1st Saturday's Art Market" of the year.  Weather permitting I will be in the Platzl on Saturday, September 3, from 11:30-4pm.  Come find my tent under the trees in front of the Spirit Rock Climbing Wall.  I will be there with my paintings and I will be painting on a new work.  Please do stop by to say hello!  Let's hope for good weather!

As the summer winds down and we all settle into the swing of fall, please keep in mind that the Caprice Fine Art & Co Studio Gallery will remain open daily from 11am-9pm.  If you are in Kimberley please stop by for a visit!  Don’t forget that we now accept all major credit cards, there is no tax on paintings and free shipping in Canada!

Please feel free to forward this email to family and friends who may enjoy it!  For those of you who do not subscribe to this monthly newsletter, but would like to, please click here.   Thanks for being a part of the Caprice Fine Art & Co family.  Don’t forget to stay in touch and enjoy the glorious fall!

Have an EPIC day!

Book of the Month

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards

This is the one book I most often recommend to my students.  Not only does it provide excellent exercises and drawing techniques, but it also teaches the artist to use the more creative side of their brain.  I highly recommend this book for all creative individuals.
