Technology in the Hands of Students

Shakopee Schools would like to extend a big "thank you" to our Instructional Technology department for their efforts in our technology roll-out. Did you know that we gave out more than 4,000 devices for our students in just a matter of weeks? And that means so much more than just giving our students an iPad or computer. It means that more than 4,000 students also went through an orientation to learn more about how to use their device and the expectation of our students. We would also like to thank our community for investing in technology in our district.
Our Excellence with Equity team hosted a back to school barbecue at Hunter's Ridge Apartments. The goal was to bring staff, community and students out to meet our Excellence with Equity team. Thank you to all those that came out. Watch the video above for a look at all the fun.

Update on Academies of Shakopee Progress

In fall 2018, the expansion of Shakopee High School will be complete and the district will open the Academies of Shakopee. What are the Academies of Shakopee? The academies are designed to educate our students by creating a more supportive and personalized environment. The academies strengthen the connection between high school, and post-secondary and career options by enabling students to explore areas of interest and find their passion before they leave high school.

Exploration of career and areas of interest exploration will begin as early as 6th grade and continue through middle school. Then, students will enter the Freshman Academy and begin their experience in the Academies of Shakopee. 9th graders will be given additional opportunities to continue exploring their interests in preparation for choosing an academy for their sophomore through senior year. However, it’s important to note that students will not be “stuck” in an academy if they feel they made the wrong choice or if they feel their interests lie in another academy. There will be opportunities to take classes in other academies, as well as transfer between academies, in order to allow students to fully explore their interests.
