Brucellosis Vaccine Prize Competition now accepting applications

The newly launched US $30 million Brucellosis Vaccine Prize Competition is open to applicants starting September 2016 for up to one year. The initiative, which is funded by AgResults and Implemented by GALVmed, is aimed at providing incentives to animal health, pharmaceutical companies and research institutes to develop a B. melitensis vaccine against brucellosis, which will be used mainly in developing countries. The prize – one of the largest of its kind – will go towards funding innovative solutions from the private sector to intractable development challenges.

GALVmed's partnership with Professor Marshall Lightowlers at the University of Melbourne and Indian Immunologicals Ltd has led to the first-ever porcine cysticercosis vaccine. The TSOL18 vaccine technology, known as Cysvax®, will be for sale in India through Indian Immunological Limited by the end of 2016.

For farmers to benefit from animal health products, there has to be a reliable and sustainable supply chain to deliver the products. GALVmed is working with Hester Biosciences Ltd. in India to set up a sustainable supply chain for the ND vaccine from manufacturer to the smallholder farmers in rural areas.

East Africa Community Regulatory Harmonisation update

 
Since 2012, GALVmed has worked with the EAC Secretariat and national drug regulatory authorities (NRAs) in EAC Partner States  to harmonise requirements for veterinary vaccine registration. A technical working group was formed with representatives from NRAs of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi to develop technical documents for harmonised registration of veterinary immunologicals in the EAC leading to Mutual Recognition.
