Highlights from the FED Newsletter

Much has happened over the last few months with FWIC from new staffing at the National office to our Annual Board Meeting held from June 16-19th in Brant County, Ontario. The ladies were welcomed with a meet and greet with the
Homestead Local Committee and members of local WI branches. Many topics were discussed including short and long term strategies to ensure the continued viability of the FWIC as a national organization.

We're Facebook Famous!

We posted this photo back in March 2016, celebrating the new face of WI. Since then, this picture has been shared 67 times and reached over 4500 people, including women in the UK and Australia. They love us!

MWI Recognized with Nellie Award

Congratulations to Manitoba Women's Institutes for being honoured with a Nellie Award this year. The awards celebrated the 100th anniversary of Manitoba women getting the 'vote'. MWI was 6 years old in 1915. During its 105 years, the Manitoba Women’s Institute has encouraged the indomitable spirit of Nellie McClung, a speaker at its first annual convention held in 1911.

The MWI supported the suffragist movement that resulted in Manitoba women receiving the right to vote in 1916. It lobbied to bring about the passage of the 1916 Manitoba Dower Law to protect the property rights of a wife. It worked hard to make health care and public health programs accessible for rural people and safe houses accessible for abused women.
