Back to Church Sunday Schedule:

8:45 am - French toast breakfast
10:00 am - Late service & First Kids
11:00 am - Luncheon with games & fellowship
(bring your favorite game-day snack)

August Food Drive

School is in full swing and so are kid’s appetites.  If you have been meaning to help our Brighton families by purchasing a nonperishable food item, there is still time.  While you are at the grocery store this week, pick up an extra item that you would be buying for yourself and bring it to church on Sunday.  Place the food on the food shelves by the office.  Let’s keep our food shelves full!

Join Choir

Chancel Choir will be resuming rehearsals on Thursday, September 1st at 7:30 pm in the Music Room.  We are currently recruiting all voice parts!  If you are interested in singing, we hope you'll join us!
Questions?  Please email our choir director, Nick Lee - nlee7124@gmail.com

Central Visitation Program Volunteers

Central Visitation Program is actively looking for volunteers to help us as we provide supervised parenting time to facilitate children seeing their non-custodial parent.
Volunteering takes an hour and a half commitment once a week or every other week on a weekday evening or weekend.   All training is provided by Central Visitation Program staff.  Volunteers are also needed to be substitutes and fill in when regular volunteers are sick or on vacation. Volunteers would work at our facility in Downtown Denver or Brighton, CO.
In addition, Central Visitation Program is looking for a few adventurous volunteers who will work with staff and board members in soliciting items for our silent auction. This can be done on your schedule with coordination between you and the staff that can take place electronically.

For more information about volunteering, to set up a volunteer interview, or to donate an item for the silent auction, contact Central Visitation Program Executive Director Brad Wood at 303-839-8701 or bwood@cvpdenver.org.

Items for the Display Case

September 18th is National Back to Church Sunday.  The theme for this year is “Now is the Time….”   Now is the time to come back to church, now is the time to invite people who are struggling, have gotten out of the habit, believe they are too busy, feel disconnected from the church etc.  There never was a better time to invite someone to church.  Now is the time!  In keeping with this theme we would invite you to bring clocks or timepieces to put in the display case to share with others.  Please put your name on it and leave it in the office or give it to Julie Dickman or Joann Briggs.  Now is the time!

Per Capita

Per capita is one of the ways we get to participate in the life of the larger church, one of the ways we get to step outside our own walls and share in ministry to the whole world. The per capita we pay as a congregation brings us into partnership with other PCUSA congregations here in the Denver Presbytery, but also with churches all over the United States through presbyteries, synods and the General Assembly.

Per capita is not a collection of dues, but a sign of partnership, a sign that we are in this together whether we live on the coast of Florida or the hills of Arkansas or the mountains of Colorado or the plains of Kansas. With a gift of $35.00 a year, you help fund ministry that extends beyond anything we can even see. Ministries that open doors to grace. Ministries that offer hope to the hopeless. Ministries that reach out to the men and women who pastor our congregations. We are only about a quarter of the way to meeting our goal for per capita participation among our membership so please consider giving and know that as you do give, you are once more participating in something much bigger than any of us can imagine.

Youth Group

The cool, awesome, super rad Youth Group (6th - 12th grade) meets after the 10:00 worship service on Sunday Mornings. We converse and study God’s Word in the Youth Room upstairs and usually ends at 12:30. If you have any questions, text, call or email Margo at 623-556-3823, margo@brightonfirstpres.org

Kids Club

Kids Club will be starting Wednesday, September 7th! This is a time for preschool through fifth grade students to play games, have a snack and hear God’s Word. We will meet in the gym on Wednesdays from 2:15- 4:30, so grab a friend and get excited!  If you have any questions, text, call or email Margo at 623-556-3823, margo@brightonfirstpres.org

Adult Sunday School

In Adult Sunday  School, we are reading and discussing William Willimon’s most recent book Fear of the Other which is a challenging and timely look at the words of First John where we are told that “There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear…” (CEB). “What might this kind of love look like in our world today?” William asks. In the book we will read stories that make us laugh, make us cry, make us angry, make us grateful. In class my guess is we will do the same as we hear each other’s stories.

Let’s plan to get started at 8:45 a.m. or so each Sunday so we have plenty of time to talk and listen, to reflect and ask questions. The cost for a book if you are able to do so is $13.11. Please email Pastor Matt - matt@brightonfirstpres.org if you would like him to get a copy for you. In case you’re wondering, William Willimon is professor of the practice of Christian ministry at Duke University Divinity School, having previously served as dean of the chapel at Duke and bishop of the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church.
