Collaborative Impact
September 2016 Newsletter
|
|
Dear Dear Community Partner,
With the start of the school year, the Ed Fund is committed to nothing less than every West County child graduating from high school prepared for college, career and life.
Schools within the West Contra Costa Unified School District show dramatic performance disparities based on class, privilege, race, ethnicity, gender, disability, English language proficiency and history of oppression. We believe these historical inequities will only be eradicated when a critical mass of community stakeholders works together to strategically support the academic and life success of underserved and underrepresented children and youth.
The Ed Fund is working to create educational environments where our students thrive and succeed in their chosen endeavors. This past year, in a strategic planning process with our community partners we asked the question, “What can we do to help our students graduate from high school ready to succeed in college and their chosen career?”
From this question, the Ed Fund’s new collaborative effort was born. Our Collaborative is a partnership between over 25 agencies that support the success of children and youth who attend public schools within the enrollment area of the West Contra Costa Unified School District. We initially grew out of the College Access Initiative and Out-of-School Time Initiatives at the Ed Fund. The Collaborative is a collective impact initiative committed to aligning our strategies and resources to eliminate the systemic inequities faced by underserved and underrepresented children, youth and families. By 2025, we will double the number of West County children and youth who earn a degree or certificate.
We could not do this without your support and look forward to another year of growth and learning, inside and outside of the classroom.
Sincerely,
Joel Mackey
Executive Director

Partners in Ed Excellence Award
|
|
The Ed Fund has been awarded the Association of California School Administrator¹s (ACSA) Partners in Ed Excellence award. The West Contra Costa Unified School District nominated the Ed Fund for the wonderful support that its collaborative provides to WCCUSD, students and staff. For more than 30 years, the Ed Fund has played an instrumental role by aligning community resources and programming to address the inequalities faced by underserved and underrepresented children and youth. The Ed Fund has taken on a convening role to broker resources for major education initiatives in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Over the past four years, the Ed Fund has brokered two education initiatives, an Out-of-School initiative to create a comprehensive after-school and summer plan for all WCCUSD students, and a College Access initiative which has increased public and institutional aid for our graduating seniors by more than $20 million dollars annually.
The Partners in Educational Excellence Awards is given annually to exemplary school-community partnership programs that promote effective educational performance, enhanced student achievement and strong community involvement in educational quality. This award is granted to outstanding community partnership programs at region and state levels, and recognizes the individual leadership and contributions of school administrators, educators and community or business leaders involved in the program.
