8/24 Aviv , Brooks, 7 pm
Cities Aviv is the performance project of Memphis sound artist Gavin Mays. Partly due to a sound catalog which shifts between amplified soul, industrious off-punk, and dissonant street rap, Cities Aviv remains a mainstay among progressive circles worldwide.
 
8/24  Live music at David Lusk Gallery, Jimmy Crosswait & Greg Faiers, 7-9 pm
This 2-set multi-media affair combines atmospheric music with atmospheric art! Jimmy will be percussing his zen chimes and Greg will be providing drones, soundscapes, and other accompaniment.

8/26   Rodrigo Valenzuela: Frontiers art opening, Fogelman Galleries of Contemporary Art – U of M, 5 – 7:30 pm
Chilean-born, Houston-based artist Rodrigo Valenzuela. The exhibition marks the artist's foray into painting, building off of earlier photographic work for which he is known, and also includes two video works that address issues of labor and migration.

Detroit, Michigan 1959. Berry Gordy gathered the best musicians from the city’s thriving jazz and blues scene for his new record company: Motown. They called themselves the Funk Brothers, and they were the greatest hit machine in the history popular music. This is their story.
