September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
You may notice teal ribbons around trees and post on Ridgeland Ave during the month of September. These are to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer, often a difficult cancer to treat because there is no early detection test. Some signs and symptoms may include: abdominal bloating and pain, back pain, indigestion or feeling full quickly, and unusual fatigue. Consult a physician if symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks. For more information on how to help raise awareness, contact tieatealribbon@gmail.com.
Career Online High School
The Chicago Ridge Public Library is now offering adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online through a new program, Career Online High School (COHS). The Friends of the Library are providing a limited number of free scholarships to qualified adult learners who are looking to advance their careers, prepare for workforce entry, or continue their education. Once enrolled, COHS pairs each student with an academic coach, who provides the student with an individual career path, offers ongoing guidance, evaluates performance, and connects the student with the resources needed to master the courses. Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program. To learn more about the program, contact Dana Wishnick or the Adult Services Desk.
