Mr. Nevin Shaffer,
Intellectual Property Professor

University of West Florida


 
Mr. Nevin Shaffer, local patent attorney and Florida Board Certified Intellectual Property (IP) Law specialist, is teaching an introductory course on patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets this fall. The course includes local business speakers, war stories from Nevin’s 36-year practice, and the details of how to use IP to protect a business from its competitors. 

Other than law schools, IP courses are not readily available. UWF is proud to be in the company of Harvard and Yale as IP course providers.
The Golden Fleece Company:
A Student Entreprenur's Story
The Golden Fleece Company was founded in the summer of 2016 with a simple mission: To make our community a better place while meeting the needs of fraternities, sororities and trendsetters.

UWF College of Business senior Carlos Sosa, along with his wife Brittney (a UWF Psychology sophomore), founded The Golden Fleece Company. Based on a recommendation from the CFE, you can find them selling merchandise in the UWF Commons on Sundays.

Dive Deep
Rick Duke is leading an Academic Foundations for Success course to help students navigate university life. His class features several components that encourage creative thinking and innovation, such as team-based projects, guest speakers and experiential learning. Activities take place both inside and outside the classroom, from local business to outdoor team-building.

SocialDesk in Pensacola

Pensacola Socialdesk is where cowork meets teamwork to collaborate to create solutions, products and services to help the people of greater Pensacola thrive.

Socialdesk includes a wide variety of workspaces to accomplish common purposes. You can reserve a desk for yourself, share it with a coworker, give a presentation to a large group, or share a desk with someone with similar goals to yours. You can use it daily, monthly or yearly.

YEA! at Pace High School
 
Twenty five YEA! students from Pace High School will take a field trip to UWF on September 29. 

Community partners, like Socialdesk's Pete Nowak, and several UWF faculty, like Nevin Shaffer, are contributing business expertise and experiential opportunities.

Thank you to Celene Sessions (Pace High School) and Charlin Knight (Santa Rosa County School District) for escorting these students to campus.
Rotary Club Presentation
The CFE was welcomed at a September meeting of the Suburban West Rotary Club.

SCI Partnership
The CFE is exploring another workshop partnership with Studer Community Institute for spring 2017.
