Mira's energy and enthusiasm announcing our Westwood Lake race was welcomed and praised by our athletes. Mira is a popular & recognized media personality in the Vancouver island community. Mira has been the host emcee for a range of organizations including the University of Victoria, Vancouver Island University and the Cops for Cancer - Tour de Rock.

2nd Annual
Westwood Lake Triathlon
Sunday June 25th, 2017

We had so much fun producing the Westwood Lake Triathlon and received such great feedback for our 2016 athletes about the beautiful swim venue, challenging bike course and epic trail run around the lake.

We do appreciate that our race date occurs on the same day as two other races on Vancouver Island (Qualicum Beach Tri & the Tri of Compassion in Victoria). We wanted to share with athletes what goes into choosing a date for any new races we look at adding to our Series.

• Consideration of other race dates in the Dynamic Race Events Series schedule
• The TRIBC calendar as known by TRIBC at the time of planning
• Park/Venue availability from the host community on a potential race weekend
• Availability of our timing company
• Other non-triathlon events being held on a potential race weekend that may effect availability of traffic control
• Our personal schedule, as we have two active kids who participate and compete in other sports, as well as other family commitments

Westwood Lake Park is Nanaimo's busiest park, and with lifeguards on duty from June to the end of summer is also the favourite family swim spot locally. We have spoken with the City and a July or August date does not work for them or our other local partner, Tourism Nanaimo.

Ultimately, a decision had to be made and in consideration of the above factors, coupled with the fact that our event attracts and entirely different type of Triathlete (both Qualicum and Tri of Compassion are short distance pool swims) our chosen date does and will continue to fall on the same weekend as the other two races. We encourage those athletes not ready for an open water race to check out and participate either the Qualicum Triathlon or the Triathlon of Compassion.

For those ready to take on the challenge in an open water setting, we are thrilled to be hosting the Westwood Lake Triathlon for it's second year in 2017...come test yourself on one of the most EPIC race courses in the Pacific Northwest!

Our friends at Pure Life Paddle Boards offer learn to paddle board clinics throughout the year.

Want to try something new? Get our on the water and try out some great boards on beautiful Cultus Lake!

This course introduce beginner and novice paddlers to the basics of stand up paddling. Participants will take park in both on water and and based components, covering topics from equipment and safety to proper paddling techniques.

2016 TRIBC Gala
Saturday September 10th

Come celebrate the end of a season with us on September 10th, as we host our annual Athlete Gala and Silent Auction Fundraiser!  Our Gala and Silent Auction celebrates an evening of excellence, honoring the accomplishments of community champions, recognizing the tremendous contributions these volunteers, athletes, race directors, coaches and officials have made towards the advancement of our sport.

Join over 125 triathlon supporters for a memorable evening featuring the opportunity to mix and mingle with provincial champions, officials, coaches, board members and staff, and listen to an energizing key note delivered by international long distance athlete, Jeff Symonds, as he talks about overcoming adversity.
 

The Silent Auction fundraiser supports Junior Development so come prepared to bid on a unique selection of items, including race entries, sportswear, hotel stays and much more!
