Return to Two Services
The fall semester is here! That means we're returning to our two service Sunday schedule. Coming up this Sunday, August 28, you'll be able to choose between our identical 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services. Remember that we offer full children's ministry during the early service and childcare is provided during the latter. We hope to see you at one of these services!

 Welcome Week with Connect!
Summer is coming to an end and fall is just around the corner. Classes will start soon and with that comes the stress of homework and papers and exams. But don't think about that stuff yet! Join Connect, Northstar's college ministry, as we celebrate the start of a new semester! We still have a bonfire coming up on Saturday, August 27, and a welcome reception after our 11:00 a.m. service on August 28.  We're Looking for a Few Good Volunteers
The fall semester is upon us! With a new semester comes new opportunities to serve and we are looking for folks who are interested in meeting new people and want to invest in the kingdom of God through service. We want to encourage you to get involved in an area where you can use your talents to bless others, whether that be with children's ministry, youth, college students, or creative arts. One of our primary needs in the coming months will be with our Sunday Serve Team, which helps prepare Blacksburg Middle School for worship each week with setup and teardown. Please consider volunteering in one of these important areas.

 Saturday Seminary
Join us for our first Saturday Seminary of the fall as Jeff Noble teaches through 1 & 2 Thessalonians, through the lens of how your discipleship should focus on increasing the faith and love of the people you meet with. Jeff will share practical tips of discipleship, including how to lovingly challenge and encourage those you meet with to grow in these two crucial areas. It's all happening Saturday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the Northstar Ministry Center!

 New Intern Opportunity!
Northstar is currently accepting applications for its intern program. The one-year program gives participants exposure and insight to working in ministry and helps them descern their own unique calling to ministry. If you are a college student or recent graduate and are looking for ways to experience ministry first-hand and grow in your gifts, then we would love to invite you to be a part of our team!

 Text to Give
We've implemented a new feature that makes it easier than ever to give for those of you who would like to participate but have left cash or checkbook at home. Simply text "Give $5" (or whatever amount you would like) to 540-427-7724 and, after a quick 1-minute set up process, you'll be ready to "text to give" with Northstar! You can designate which campus (Blacksburg or Pulaski), what fund (General, Immeasurably More, etc.), and your giving will be tracked on MyNorthstar for your own convenience and personal reporting.
 GAP Small Group Kickoff
Small groups are starting up soon! Join the GAP ministry this Saturday, August 27, at 6:00 p.m. at Blacksburg Municipal Park to celebrate the beginning of a new semester. Come out for food and fun as you meet new people and connect with old friends!

 Kids' Ministry Volunteer Training
Do you have a heart for children and want to play a role in their faith story? Have you been interested in volunteering in children's ministry but are unsure of where to begin? Are you a current volunteer who would like a refresher and extra tips or tricks? Join us on Saturday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northstar Ministry Center for our Children's Ministry Volunteer Training! We will provide a light breakfast and free childcare if needed. Remember, this is a training for new volunteers as well as old pros!

 Disaster Relief Training
Have you ever watched as tragedy unfolded on the news and thought, "I wish there was something I could do to help."? Well, now there is. You can become a trained volunteer with the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia's Disaster Relief team. The training provided, as well as the partnerships with national organizations like the American Red Cross and with churches in other states will allow you to be one of those who responds with a team when others are unable. Join Steve Bodtke and others from Northstar on Saturday, September 17 to attend this training.

 Noodles for Newborns
Noodles for Newborns is a way for us as a church to show Christ’s love to the New River Valley. Every family leaving The Birth Place at Montgomery Regional Hospital will get a bag with a box of noddles, sauce and a box of brownies. The bag will also have all of Northstar’s information. This is a simple yet effective way for us to Be the Church. All of the items inside the bag will be coming from donations made by us. Every month the bags will be delivered to the hospital and given to families leaving. About 40 babies a month are born at this hospital, giving us the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of 40 families. Please be in prayer about ways in which you can serve this ministry, from purchasing items to packing bags, or even donating money to be used to buy items for the bags.

The latest edition of Northstar Magazine is in this weekend! In it we have some exicting info about what's been happening at Northstar Church lately, as well as inspiring articles about how God is moving in people's lives! Be sure to pick up your copy at church this Sunday or come by the office and grab one. While you're at it, pick up a few extra copies to hand out to your friends and neighbors. Northstar Magazine is a great way to kickstart a conversation about how we can all share the love of Jesus with our community!
