September Sunday Assembly!

Sunday, September 11th, 10:30AM
The Arts Center
300-G East Main St. Carrboro NC 27510

Please join us for our September assembly! Our speaker this month will be Jehanne Gheith, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and tenured professor at Duke. She'll be sharing some lessons she's learned as a psychotherapist and grief counselor: how to talk about mortality and loss, and how these difficult conversations can make our lives richer. She'll help us to appreciate the one life we know we have. This will be a very special assembly, equal parts contemplative and celebratory. Please RSVP on Meetup and share this journey with us.

Crayons2Calculators

Thanks to everyone's generous donations in August, we were able to bring a car trunk full of school supplies to Crayons2Calculators. All of these supplies have been sorted in their warehouse and are on their way to teachers and students in need. Thank you so much!

Upcoming Events

  • Saturday, August 28th: Family Board Game Afternoon at the Chapel Hill Public Library - this is an event for adults and (supervised) kids of all ages. Bring along your kids, or just yourself, and something to play!

NC Pride Festival Sept. 25th

This will be the second year we march in the Pride Parade in Durham. We'd love to see you there! We're looking for people to march in the parade (setup starting around noon) and also a couple table volunteers for before and after. Please check out the very detailed information on the Meetup event. Last year it was a little damp, but so rewarding. We can't wait to do it again with some of the new friends we've made over the past year!

Songs for September

These are the songs we'll be singing in September. We'll have a couple of guest musicians this month!
  • I Lived - OneRepublic
  • House of Gold - Twenty One Pilots
  • Perfect - Pink
  • Secrets - Mary Lambert
This handy playlist has all the songs in order.

Help Out!

Want to help out your assembly? Let us know! You can reply to this email to get in touch with the organizational team. We can use help with the following:

  • Ideas for speakers, readings, or songs - the organizing team are happy to find speakers, readings, moments of science, or themes for an assembly, but we're even happier to include your ideas. The more voices that are heard on stage, the better!
  • Hosts, readers, or singers - make your voices heard in a very literal way by getting up on stage. Don't worry, Sunday Assembly members make the most supportive audience ever!
  • Greeters or welcomers - we can always use help getting people oriented when they come in. We also like to have designated people to introduce themselves to newcomers and help them feel welcomed.
  • Setup or breakdown volunteers - those chairs won't unfold themselves!
  • Snack-bringers - bring along something healthy and/or tasty to share with everyone.
